Starting run on Building Hex from Map. You can see in batch that it is taking over 2 days to place individual Farms on a 16000m2 map. Going to move on getting a second GPU started -- hoping to try a Tesla (Tesla K20c). Possibly end up using a 3 GPU setup to speed up the batches. Can't find anything documented as to what others are using. To make the whole map I need 7000 hexes.
I tested running Gaia Pro successfully at the following resolutions -- Large, then Custom 2048 and 4096. I was able to quickly populate everything sequentially in minutes. I ran through the terrain, and everything looked good. Then it failed at 8192 and 16384. You notice it start to go when it really slows down. It isn't the CPU or GPU or HD. Its the amount of Ram it uses. So when you try for 16384 it can crash after a single pass running at over 50GB. It seems to need the excess ram as a buffer - something on the order of over 3x the ram used. If I want to do 16384 and there are 3 passes expect to need 150GB to use in process and 450gb to use as buffer. If I filled all the slots with 16GB of Ram that gets me to 256GB. Fill all with 32GB and I get 512GB.I theorize that you would need at least 5 X 128GB sticks to do the 16384 piece. At 30gb to do Synty in a 8192 sq meter base would cost 90GB and then 270 more as buffer. That is doable in the short term. You have to remember that each pass adds more to the cost of the terrain.
