Personal history
Commander Aldric Marrowbay was born in the secluded coastal town of Sabletide , a place known for its storm-beaten cliffs and proud fishing families. His father was a lighthouse keeper and his mother a shipwright—Aldric grew up with the sea in his blood and salt in his lungs.
At the age of 14, he lied about his age and enlisted as a cabin boy in the Insular Navy, quickly developing a reputation for unshakable discipline, almost unnerving calm in crises, and a fierce loyalty to the crown. His superiors often said:
“If the sea itself ever wore a uniform, it would look like Marrowbay.”
Aldric rose through the ranks not through charisma—he is famously stern and uncompromising—but through:
- A perfect understanding of naval combat geometry
- His ability to read weather patterns with uncanny accuracy
- His refusal to abandon sailors under his command, no matter the danger
During the Siege of Frostmere Strait, he executed a maneuver now known as Marrowbay’s Cut, threading a squadron of ships through an ice-choked passage thought unnavigable. The victory ended a three-year blockade and made him a national hero.
Despite his fame, Aldric avoids political circles, considering them "murkier than any sea." He instead spends most of his time aboard ship, drilling his crew to perfection. Though strict, he is deeply respected—some even say feared—for his absolute, unbending standards.
Most believe he will eventually rise to the rank of admiral.
He insists he won’t take the promotion until he feels he’s truly earned it.
