Graves of the Departed Empire

When you look to the future, do you imagine a utopian world filled with Cities-on-the-Hill or do you imagine a world crushed in darkness?

I give only the two options because I find that everyone gravitates one way or the other. Very little space half measures, in reality or in the imagination I suppose. We're always approaching one or the other, in most peoples minds. Peace in our time, or Calamity.

That is, of course, not how history or progress works, no? It's less a constant line traversing upwards, and more the pushing of a boulder up a hill. That boulder is bound to slip at some point, and roll a ways back down before you can catch it once more.

While not a perfect analogy, I think you can describe the New World as a... stumbling point of sorts. Humanity was on the rise, able to reach across Sol at a grasp, seemingly above it's base natures.

Seemingly.

Shame that someone couldn't keep a lid on it enough to themselves from blowing themselves back to the stone age, leaving behind experiments and technology, both human and alien, it no longer knows how to control to run on unsupervised.
