WELCOME CITIZENS, and workers.
This world will not be easy for the players. They are not Organics.
They are Machine-Minds, synthetic bodies embedded with a human conscience copied several hundred years before humanity suffered a great many catastrophes in rapid succession. While the minds were copied in an attempt to remember a life that might be lost at any moment, they are now used for modern humanity to take out their frustrations on those who came before and left their world in such a state.
Indentured servants at best or slaves at worst, even if they aren't directly owned by someone, they will be treated as secondhand citizens by the vast majority of Organics and even their own kind.
Outside of the social position they find themselves in, the world is simply more dangerous than they remember. Outside of the solemn cities, archologies, and aerocities scattered across the world and solar system, the land is wild and changed. Nuclear wastes, overgrown forests, oceans bursting from their banks and constantly wind-tossed.
Even if one were to gather the gear needed to live outside, there isn't much in the way of survival anyways. Mutant animals, outlaw M's and occasional Organic, and the worst of all, the Tech-Horrors. The broken shards of a world long gone, but still ready, willing, and able to push the world we have now tumbling down if we aren't ever vigilant.
That being said, even now humanity is clawing it's way back to life. Ships and Solar Sailors leave atmo daily, reactivating old space stations and satellites in orbit, discovering and founding colonies throughout the solar system and beyond. Alien races we had contact with before our calamitous fall have started speaking to us once again. The far wilds and boundless oceans that attempted to swallow us are being beaten back, bit by bit.
Most importantly, Humanities inner rage is cooling and more and more Organics are thinking about what they've been doing. Some are fine with it, but others hate it. Seek to fight it.
After all, where does human end and machine begin?
