The Ceremonies of Grandel Isle
A Crowning of a Queen
A Passing of Duty
A Bonding of Queen and Protector
The Crowning
When the first Queen arrived, the Mystics performed the Crowning. The Crowning is the gifting of the parasitic barrier to the new Queen. Queens do not pass their crown on, for the barrier consumes them by the end of their reign. Thus, the Mystics alone perform the rite.
“With this Crown
I pass her crown,
her kingdom,
her life to you.”
The crown is placed upon the brow of the young Queen. She feels the barrier fall to her, and her life begins to be taken at a slow but steady pace. From that day until her last, she bears the weight of Grandel Isle.
The Queen’s Advisor position was created to give her support in this new ecosphere.
The Passing
The second ceremony evolved from the first. The Queen’s Crowning was followed by the Passing, in which a Protector passes his sword to the next.
“I Pass my sword,
My Life,
My Duty,
To You.”
The Protector slides the blade across the open palm of the new Protector. He lifts the sword high, blood upon it, sealing the oath. The Protector’s Advisor raises his sword in allegiance. The runes upon the blade shift, marking the region of the new Protector.
The Bonding
Lastly, the Bonding is performed. Two simple joined rings are drawn from the Mystic’s robe and placed upon the Queen’s right hand and the Protector’s left. Positioned thus, they touch when they stand together.
“With this bonding ring, so shall you be bound to each other.”
The Mystic passes his sleeve over their fingers. The rings divide.
“Even when you are apart, you are one.”

Fates Woven in Legacy and Battle.
Origin of the Protector
When the first Queen was nearly lost, the Protector rose.
He left with their daughter in his arms.
From that moment, the Queen’s Protector became a sacred role.
To support him, the Protector’s Advisor was named— a soul who would stand in his place when duty pulled him away.
- Crown vs. Barrier → Life consumed for duty
- Sword vs. Blood → Protection sealed in sacrifice
- Rings vs. Division → Unity even in separation
