The Serpentine River

The Serpentine River is the convergence of two rivers, The Virelin and The Myrrowen. These two rivers wind westward from the forest-choked hills east of Frae, cutting a wide, slow path through the thick trees before converging roughly three miles east of Frae. It empties into the ocean on the west side of Frae.

The river splits the city of Frae and defines the heart of Frae’s layout, the river representing a separation, politically, economically, and spiritually. The north side is more affluent, and the south side is occupied almost entirely by those not affiliated with a house ̶ laborers, non-humans, and the working class.

The river is often referred to as the Splitmaw by dockworkers and traders.

The elven name of the river is Ilhavaril, or The Tongue that Drinks the Stars as they believe it to be the shed tongue of a sky-serpent slain by Deskeylla and buried beneath the forest.
