Lohtari
The Lohtari are a highly secretive order of plainclothes monks who devote their lives to mastery and study of interplanar energy. Their existence is not really known to the world outside their order, and they prefer to keep it that way. The person who just passed you in the street, who looks like an ordinary peasant, could be a Lohtari monk.
Their use of mantras to manipulate planar energy, and mundane Voldrelm energy, is the main source of their power. Though not overtly magical, their real power lies in their ability to influence the outcome of certain events. They are behind the scenes of many world-shattering events in the Voldrelm, quietly lending their mystic influence to the the efforts of the Callenthi and others who they deem worthy. Founded by broad-minded human and half-Callenthi mystics, the order is thousands of years old. Their main temple is on the lake island of Shente.
Loh=Move. Tari=Energy.
A Lohtari can be another profession or class also. A fighter can be part of the Lohtari order, as can a druid or a monk. It is a worldview.
They worship a power known as various names including Uthamr / Anmynd / Myndengi / Vaetkian (literally "No Shape"), also referred to as "The Formless". They do not worship Solios or any of the traditional Gods of the Callenthi or any other race, but nor do they prohibit their worship to other Lohtari. Uthamr is seen as a universal force who they work with and attune to, in order to exert the influence that they humbly wield over the world.
Structure
There are no titles within the Lohtari, only different levels of enlightenment, but they are not heirarchically organized.
Public Agenda
Their only agenda is the welfare of all peoples. They are a benevolent organization, practicing their ways from the shadows.
Assets
None, unless the temple at Shente could be considered an asset.
History
The history of the Lohtari is shrouded in mystery. But it is known that many thousands of years ago, possibly during the 700 years war, a group of Callenthi, Half-callenthi and humans formed a small sect, inhabiting the destroyed Solios temple at Shente (this was decimated by Emberling armies). There they developed their ideas, remaining in utter seclusion for hundreds of years, working on their subtle arts and learning the ways of the cosmos.
The energy is everywhere. We merely change our perception.
