Farveld Order of Imperial Artificers

The FOIA are a guild set up to regulate the creation and engineering of Planesphere technology. Prospective artificers study at one of several Imperial universities throughout Farveld and Farveldia (there is one being constructed in Vutetria, Olvitri at present also) and do an internship with existing artificers. There they learn how to control and channel the volatile planar energy which is used to power forges, propel vehicles of land, air and sea, and perform a myriad of other chores such as light households. They also learn the properties of Syrellium which is used to craft the shell that contains the planar energy. They experiment to find new properties and new uses also. Accidents with the energy are rare, but when they happen are quite often catastrophic, resulting in death or worse.   The process for becoming a Guild member is rigorous. Prospective applicants show great aptitude in the sciences, and have a keen interest in the area. They should be sound of mind and spirit and have a patron who can help support their studies. Then, they can make an application to the Guild headquarters in Rettamund, where they will be based for the duration of their studies. After three years as a novice, they proceed to the rank of initiate, under the guidance of a teacher, and they serve that teacher devotedly and apply themselves whole-heartedly to study. Relationships are discouraged as they generally only serve to be a distraction. After being an initiate for some years, they graduate to the position of adept, and head out into the world. After proving themselves useful to the community, and gaining testaments thereto, they may advance further to the rank of Master Artificer, then Grandmaster Artificer (after decades of work in a specific field). At some point all artificers begin to specialize in one particular area of artifice.
