The Gruumians

Greater Deities

Gruumsh (GROOM-sh) is the creator god of the orc race and leader of The Gruumians. He is the god of chaos, strength, survival and mysticism. He is a god of dreams and prophecy, as well as the god of knowledge and skill. He is named He Who Never Sleeps for he is said to never tire, and symbolized with an ever-open eye to represent the orc belief that he watches over them all and judges the worth of each and every one of their kind. Gruumsh created the orcs and guided their destiny with the aid of his divine subordinates, ruling over orcish mortals and gods alike as their unquestioned patriarch.

Luthic (LUH-thik) is the orc goddess of caves and mate of Gruumsh. She is the patron of orc femininity, healing, and home. She is the enduring bedrock on which orc culture rests, and the force of stability that keeps the Tribe of He Who Watches grounded. She rules over the domains of community, healing, protection, fertility and medicine. She has more of a domain over spellcraft than her husband, who’s relationship to mysticism is mostly philosophical. Both are considered gods of magic, but most practicing orcs follow the specific teachings of Luthric and instead pay homage to Gruumsh.

Lesser Deities

Bahgtru (BAHG-troo) is the son of Gruumsh and Luthric. He is a bull-headed god of strength and fighting, considered to be very loyal but not very bright. He is the favored god of orcish barbarians, as they believe their rage is a divine gift from Bahgtru that lends them power. He is also the god of Seafaring, adventure and travel.

Ilneval (ill-neh-VAHL) is the god of strategy and warfare, and the devine patron of high-rankling soldiers and community leaders alike. He domains over horses and wolves, given their place in battle, and is also the god of local government. He is the loyal right-hand of Gruumsh.

Shargaas (SHAR-gass) is the Orcish god of the cold, dark and night shadow. It rules over the domains of stealth and trickery. It is the patron of thieves and rouges, though not common amoung orcs, as well as necromancers. Shargaas is the guardian of the Orcish afterlife, and psychopomp of the orcish pantheon.

Yurtrus (YUHR-truss) is the god of death, disease and famine. Unlike Shargaas, which has a relatively neutral (bordering on positive) place in the orcish pantheon, Yurtrus represents the things most Orc communities fear - death of disease or hunger. He is treated with a healthy respect in most religious communities, but is not typically a god to be worshiped or revered.
