National Royalist Party

Structure

At its heart, the NRP operates like a gilded court:

  • The Crown Committee – A council of the oldest families and wealthiest backers, led symbolically by Lord Bali, who acts as the “King-in-Council.” Though he may not engage in day-to-day politics, his presence and endorsement validate the party’s influence.
  • The Court of Gears– A legislative bloc made up of active NRP politicians, engineers, factory barons, and guild-affiliated nobles.
  • The Aspirants’ Circle – Young hopefuls and lesser nobles seeking to earn favor and advancement through loyalty, education, or service.
  • The Herald’s Arm – The propaganda and outreach division, responsible for public messaging, youth education programs, and celebratory traditions across Windbury.

Culture

The NRP culture prizes order, tradition, and upward refinement. Members are expected to present themselves with dignity and decorum, often speaking in formal tones, dressing in stylized fashion harkening back to the city's founding years, and engaging in ceremonial events. They regard themselves as custodians of Windbury’s legacy, entrusted to guide the city through both invention and morality.

Despite their elitism, the organization encourages meritocratic integration—at least on the surface. Public programs offer promising youths scholarships, apprenticeships, and educational sponsorships, many of which are overseen or funded by NRP families. Internally, however, the party thrives on patronage, bloodlines, and quietly ruthless competition. Advancement is a mix of loyalty, shrewd deals, and ceremonial success.

Public Agenda

Publicly, the NRP proclaims itself as the rightful stewards of Windbury’s legacy, champions of structured civic innovation, and protectors of cultural and technological purity. They advocate for maintaining social cohesion, expansion of Windbury influence abroad (especially in places like The Continent of Nauquan) and keeping the city independent from foreign magical entanglements or religious overreach. In essence, they seek to ensure that Windbury remains ruled by those who "earned" it—and that their vision of progress, built on tradition, order, and wealth, endures.

History

Formed in 4127, the same year Windbury was founded, the National Royalist Party began as an assembly of the city’s most influential visionaries—those who built its first gears, chiseled its foundations, and mapped out its social design. Originally a political alliance to preserve city integrity, the NRP quickly evolved into a structured caste of founders and their descendants, claiming not only influence but inherent right to lead.

In its early years, the party helped fund core infrastructure, negotiated the first trade pacts, and oversaw Windbury’s wartime resilience. Over the decades, however, their ideology hardened. Merit was still respected, but lineage became law, and the idea of Windbury as a “crown without a throne” took root. Lord Bali, though technically a public servant, became the symbolic King—the face of Windbury’s highest social tier.

Once word got around of Riament Grangerford's untimely demise, the strength of the party exploded like wildfire. The party had settled into a duality: revered publicly, corrupted privately and with no one else to challenge them, their word was law. Rising through its ranks was considered an honor, but required navigating whispers, deals, and betrayals.
