Ulawa
"Disheveled, irritated, oft possessed of a dour, patronizing expression, Teacher Ulawa is the epitome of academia in all its beauties and woes. Her golden eyes are always bunkered behind deep bags and when boring people speak (which seems to be nearly everyone but her, these days) they can be found fluttering in and out of a restless doze."
Teacher Ulawa is a lore-speaker and teacher at the Magaambya Academy, representing the Rain-Scribes. She's typically found constantly researching entomology, and often only excited for new discoveries, or field expeditions.
Description
Appearance
Ulawa is a middle-aged Bonuwat woman with dark brown skin, golden eyes usually bunkered behind deep bags due to her constant work. Her long coiled locs are always held back by a small collection of orange hand-woven cloths. She wears wrinkled simple garb that servers its basic function, and the same set of uneven gold earrings and matching necklace every single day. Her mask dangles from her bag of a mantis.
Personality
The one place Ulawa's passion comes out is in the study of insects. Her enthusiasm and glee at sharing her special interest is evident in her rare smile which only grows on field expeditions, where she's famous for diving head-first into the underbrush to capture rare beetles or wriggling caterpillars. Though she's soft-spoken, her lectures are accompanied with vivid imagery as she weaves illusion magics with her photographic memory—making even the tiniest creatures seem grand and gargantuan.
Background
Current Campaign
S:03 "Leap Into Hell and Kill the Devil Himself"
As the party is eating dinner at the dining hall, Teacher Ulawa was seen walking around almost in a daze, lost thought. As she approaches the group, she introduces herself as the Teacher for the Rain-Scribes. The party explains the battle they had, and Ulawa asked questions about the water shrimp they fought, (which Adira proudly states she flipped one, much to Ulawa's displeasure ) She however suddenly becomes extremely interested in Eshe's Beetles.
Ulawa begins to ask questions, and wants to observe one up close. They make mention if they could perhaps keep one (and, humanely kill one) but Adira intervenes, stating perhaps that would be something that is uncomfortable to Eshe. Instead of keeping it, Ulawa begins to sketch the beetles onto her journal.
As Ulawa is sketching, the beetles whisper something to Eshe... the word... "Vessicant."
S:07 "He Tampered in God's Domain"
Ulawa was present after the Ambush a the Introduction Ceremony. Teacher Ot, Ulawa and Zuma were discussing what to do with Kurshkin, and decide to take it to the Black Heron Library.
After that, Kurshkin remained under Ulawa's custody in her lab.
S:08 "God May Judge You But His Sins Outnumber Your Own"
While Nymeria was talking to Teacher Ot, Orvin and Adira walk around the museum, finding Teacher Ulawa's entymology lab. Ulawa and Kurshkin are having a conversation in Kholo. Phrases can be heard back and forth, and then Ulawa gives a small piece of meat to the pugwampi in the cage. Ulawa seems to be standing behind a chalkline that's drawn around Kurshkin.
S:10 "All knowledge is based on what we cannot prove. will you fight? or will you perish like a dog?"
During Adira's investigations on Masarasa and the Cohort that her parents were in, Adira finds out that Teacher Ulawa may know more about the original Cohort, as she was attending the Academy at the time.
