Queen Abrogail Thrune II

Abrogail Thrune II is the reigning monarch of Cheliax and the sixth ruler of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune. She assumed the mantle of Infernal Majestrix in 4709 AR at the age of 17 following the mysterious death of her predecessor, Infrexus Thrune. A powerful sorceress and cunning political operator, Abrogail rules with theatrical cruelty, infernal cunning, and absolute authority.   Her reign marks the most turbulent era in Cheliax since the civil war that elevated her great-grandmother, Abrogail I, to power. She governs from the capital of Egorian, surrounded by devils, statues of petrified traitors, and layers of bureaucracy designed to enforce her every shifting whim.

Appearance and Personality

Abrogail is described as strikingly beautiful, imposing, and always immaculately styled, clad in regal black and crimson, with eyes said to mirror flame. Her court sees both her charm and her volatility: she is known for issuing declarations one day and erasing them the next, keeping even her closest allies unsure of her true intentions.   Her demeanor swings between playfully sadistic and coldly pragmatic. While rumors describe her as immature and self-indulgent, she frequently uses this image to unnerve rivals. Those who displease her are often turned to stone and displayed as permanent décor in the Imperial Palace—an eternal warning carved in flesh and hubris.

Background

Abrogail II was born in 4692 AR, a scion of a bloodline carved from war, politics, and infernal pacts. Raised in the shadow of five violently dethroned monarchs—including her great-grandmother—she learned to trust only one power: Hell.   Asmodeus himself reportedly sent Contessa Lrilatha, a winged erinys, to guide her development. Under the erinys’s brutal mentorship and the political counsel of the devil Gorthoklek, Abrogail rose quickly in arcane power and political acumen.   From adolescence, she demonstrated a precocious ruthlessness. Political romances, public flattery, and acts of generosity often veiled deeper stratagems. Every relationship was a transaction; every action, a move on the board.

Reign and Challenges

Since taking the throne, Abrogail II has endured greater resistance than any Thrune ruler since Cheliax’s infernal transformation. Her early victories included crushing the Glorious Reclamation in Westcrown, but her regime suffered symbolic blows with the independence of Ravounel and the continued loss of Vidrian (formerly Sargava). She refuses to acknowledge the latter, still referring to it by its colonial name.   These setbacks weigh heavily on her ambitions. Her rule remains secure, but her appetite for reclaiming Cheliax’s lost dominance across the Inner Sea burns hotter with every passing year.

Court and Advisers

Abrogail's inner circle consists primarily of infernal beings and loyalists:
  • Gorthoklek, a nessari devil, acts as her tactical advisor and gatekeeper of court influence.
  • Contessa Lrilatha, a high-ranking erinys, personally instructed the queen in strategy, spellcraft, and the infernal etiquette of Asmodeus.
The queen’s court is a theater of shifting alliances and constant scrutiny. Loyalty is absolute, and mistakes are often eternal.

Infernal Contracts

Abrogail II possesses the singular authority to forge Thrune Contracts - binding infernal agreements backed by the authority of Asmodeus. These pacts offer mortals great power, but little negotiation. Petitioners are often told: “Take the terms… or take the pain.” Failure to comply frequently leads to torment in Egorian’s Excruciation Fields.

Legacy and Reputation

Public opinion within Cheliax is shaped by propaganda and fear. To her enemies, she is a tyrant, capricious, cruel, and wrapped in hellfire. To her supporters, she is a sovereign anointed by the very forces that saved Cheliax from anarchy.   While her name evokes dread outside her borders, within Cheliax, it is spoken with reverence, awe, and unblinking caution.
