Their Greetings and their Goodbyes are done by raising both hands into the air and saying "Wu' aja!" for greetings, and "Do' Wiz," for goodbyes.   How they treat Apidites are slightly different. They will allow the Apidite to use their Antennae greeting. After they finish, the Tortle will go through their Greeting and Goodbye depending on weather they are meeting them or leaving, though the hands are reversed.

Common Dress Code

Tortles do not wear typical clothing, such as shirts or pants, as their shell is enough clothing for them. Sometimes they wear gloves, shoes, and hats, Pants, and almost always wear a necklace. Tortles love making small trinkets and bobbles for people who visit their forts, and many Tortle doles know how to create anti-magic shields, utilizing flail snail shells.   They will celebrate people's day of birth, like most other creatures, except they celebrate anything that is friendly to them. Most of the tribe will come together to make something for the celebrator.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Tortles worship the sun and the moon. This worship has bled into a lot of their life, including their buildings. Their houses tend to not have a roof, so that the Tortles can soak up the sunlight and moonlight. Tortles also have a fear of underground and will almost never willingly go into the underdark, as the lack of sunlight or moonlight is the equivalent to losing their connection to their gods, like a child left alone in a place they are not familiar with.

Common Taboos

Tortles will not Attack other sentient creature without provocation.

History

Tortles were created in the year 50wr, on the Island Saules Sala. They were originally tortoises, who were turned into their Tortle forms to protect two artifacts created by the sun and moon gods Bloog and Blabb, as Orcus had attempted to steal the artifact to kill the twin gods. The Tortles done so, for 250 years (300wr), until a newer, safer location was found for the artifact. A solar sent by Pavlona was tasked to retrieve it from them, where upon it sent the artifact to a near impossible-to-get-to pocket dimension, deep inside the sun and moon respectively. Tortle life was much calmer than that, until in 200wr, a Warship filled with elves had landed on Saules Sala. Their purpose for their visit was to find races all over the world, to learn skills that only the other races knew, obtain rare and valuable resources not available to themselves, and in return they would give their knowledge and resources to the new species. The knowledge that the Tortles gained from the Elves sewed the seeds of adventure in their minds, and eventually, in 203wr the Tortles had gained the drive to explore and experience other cultures they had only heard about, and see what they did not get to see when they were guarding the artifacts. Saules Sala sank into the ocean in 1237wr. However, the Tortles had already moved onto other islands.   The First Tribe off the Saules Sala was on Garathar, in 423wr, in the now port town called "Port Laurn." They where small, only about 10 Tortles came to scout out the Island. They noticed the newly made Apidite Hive in 600wr, and would try to start relations with the Apidites. These relations would start poorly, but would get better in 1218wr, where some Apidites would visit their Village. While still somewhat fearful of them, as a war with the fey have taught them something about tricks and traps, they would trust them enough to trade their honeyed foods for the Tortle's magic Shields. After the first few trades, they would build a decent level of trust with each other, keeping decent trade relations for many years to come. Eventually, in 435wr, more Tortles would dock in Port Laurn, increasing the population to over 80 tortles on the island.   When the calamity event struck, the Tortles were terrified, as the Sun and Moon where blotted out by the hell outside. Some hid underground, while others stayed above, weathering the storm. However, even though the chaos was bad, it did not change tortle life too much. One thing that was changed, was that some Tortles changed. The unlucky few affected would violently change over the course of a year. They would become larger, more dangerous, live 5 times longer, and become much more violent than the average Tortle. These creatures became highly territorial, and gain a steam breath weapon. It would enslave any Tortles who did not fight it, and would kill those that tried. Due to their similar nature to the Dragon Turtle, these creatures were given the name "Dragon Tortles."

Common Myths and Legends

While not shared by Tortles, there is a myth from Apidites that state that Tortles are solar and lunar powered, and that their reason for worshipping the sun and the moon is because it literally gives them life. How the Tortles acted while inside the hives enforced this belief.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Tortles try to befriend all races they meet. All regular races are typically friendly towards Tortles. Monstrous races, except Mind Flayers, Sahuagin, and all creatures who hate living creatures, are neutral to Tortles, as almost none of them would naturally even know that Tortles exist, and when monstrous races encounter a Tortle dole, the dole often shows high amounts of hospitality to the creatures.. Many do try to exploit this kindness, however. Orcs, Goblins, and Ogres do not try to exploit them.   Apidites, however, distrust Tortles, because they live near each other, and Apidites see them as competition only separated by small fey touched sections of Garather, and that they keep allowing people into their Villages. Even though they don't trust them, they tolerate them usually for their knack of making decent Flail-snail Shields and Magic Tridents.   Orcs, Goblins, and Ogres do not try to Exploit the Tortles kindness because of both intelligence and similar beliefs. Orcs usually don't exploit weakness through trickery and deceit, so they don't try to trick them. Goblins and Tortles share a similar viewpoint on personal possessions. Ogres simply do not like eating Tortles, and Tortles showing kindness to the Ogres is utterly confusing to them, and often view them as some form of hyper intelligent beings trying to lull them into a false sense of security around them, so that they can utterly destroy all Ogre kind. Goblins and Tortles believe in a loose form of Ownership. However, Goblins do not believe in Personal possessions, while Tortles believe that everyone is entitled to their personal possessions, but anyone can use said possessions.   Sahuagin and Tortles constantly fight, due to their close proximity to each other. Sahuagin fight Tortles for their meat, as it's one of their favorites.

The Orc and Tortle Theory   Orcs and Tortles had a similar concept happen to their Island; it sank. Some scholars have come up with the theory that both were created on the same Island. Tortles have history books detailing what was on the island, and one specific book, called "Waoulish' Buul vjsii," (Translated to "Waoulish's Book 3") details Waoulish going into the forbidden area of Saules Sala, encountering "Large scary monsters," that where throwing hammers at him. Later on in the book, a boat full of elves had shown up on their island, for trade and knowledge gathering.
