Culture and Cultural Heritage
Hill Giants are the most religious of the Giants, and hold sermons for their God. However, due to the fact that none of them can read, the Hill Giant Chieftain often just says things that his tribe wants to hear, and say that it is the will of Grolantor. One will that they have that is certainly of Grolantor, is that the small must be punished by the Big, and that those bigger than their kin are fit to rule. This applies to other species too, often Clerics of Grolantor are the largest of their kind.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Because Hill Giants almost worship creatures taller than them, they usually separate Smaller than average folk with the Taller than Average folk when choosing slaves. Particularly taller people, like humans being almost 6'9", are usually treated incredibly well in Hill Giant tribes, as to them, the gods have gifted the person, and cannot be treated poorly.
Common Taboos
While Hill Giants respect the tallest of the small folk, they will never serve them. Even if an 8'5" Human had demanded their eternal servitude, he is still smaller than them, and he must serve them. Evil creatures tend to abuse this by making the Hill Giants think the creature serves them, when in reality the Giant's are being tricked into doing exactly what he wants.
History
Hill Giants were made by the Giant God Grolantor, son of Annam, the All Father. He is the latest son of Annam, and was born in 686cr. It is unknown how he created the Hill-Giants, as his incompetence would show inability to do such a thing. It is believed, however, that he had mated with a now-dead human goddess to create his children.
Nevertheless, the first Hill Giant was created in 76wr, on the elven region of the continent. They began as a small tribe, and would expand into what is now called Giligarash Marzopio, Referred to as "The Hill Giant Territory" by the Elves. In 1010wr, One of the clans in Giligarash had begun opening trade with a Human town called Manbaro situated nearby, trading livestock, gems, and livestock (Goats, Pigs, Rhinos.) Otherwise, no notable events have happened to the Hill Giants before the calamity event, apart from a few members of different tribes being exiled out of Giligarash. However, when the Calamity event had hit, the Hill Giant's lives had massively changed. For one, the Town of Manbaro was destroyed, and it's people were enslaved by the tribe. The Calamity event had also irreversibly changed some Hill Giants for ever. Certain Hill Giants in the tribe had became incredibly intelligent. These Hill Giants, called "Hill GIant Tanke," would become chieftains and tacticians of Hill Giant tribes. This newfound intelligence had also made them far more aggressive, and while many tribes stayed passive, the Joug tribe, the Ulop tribe, and the Augh tribe had begun attempting to expand Giligarash more, sending entire raiding parties to nearby settlements to kill and eat the people, and take their lands. Now, the Elves of Uneror, the Drow of the Overdark, and the Dragonborn of Zouswiland fight to keep Giligarash Marzopio from expanding further, to keep their territories safe from the Hill Giant Threat.
Common Myths and Legends
There is a story that is shared around Hill Giant tribes. It's about how a Hill Giant, named Mooga, was the strongest Hill Giant in the world. He had conquered the dragons, and had made the bigger Giants his servants. He had ruled the world, until he his camp was raided by a warband of Gnolls lead by Yeenoghu himself, consuming everything in their wake.
Most of this story is fabricated. Mooga was a real Giant, but he didn't conquer the world. He did, however, kill a red Dragon by himself, and did get a Storm Giant to serve him, as he was both a Hill Giant and a Druid. The Warband of Gnolls were lead by a Champion of Yeenoghu, named Masoup. It was a Gnoll Balor with a Flail, and they had utterly destroyed the camp, nothing but a single witness to watch from afar, who would tell the tale.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Most Hill Giants are hated by most sentient species. Hill Giants also hate most creatures smaller than them.
Ogres, Goblins, Orcs, and Trolls are good friends with Hill Giants, as they are either large monsters, share similar values, or in the case of the Goblins, are fun to watch.
Gnolls and Hill Giants have an interesting relationship. While they both love eating humanoids, Hill Giants fear Gnolls, due to a story told by Chieftains to keep their brethren from leaving the tribe to set out on their own.
Green Dragons hate Hill Giants, while Hill Giants love the presence of a Green Dragon. To a Hill Giant, a Green Dragon means two things. 1). Green Dragon Meat is nearby, and 2). Delicious Green Dragon Eggs maybe nearby. To a Green Dragon, the Presence of Hill Giants means they must spend the better half of a week hunting down and killing every Hill Giant that had learned of its existence, as a scout will report back to it's camp, and the Dragon's life is now in danger. Hill Giants are usually not smart enough to understand why a Hill Giant had disappeared, often thinking Gnolls got him or he abandoned the tribe. Likewise, Green Dragons will die for their babies and eggs.
