The Kur

Name:

Kur

Alternate Name:

Dragonkin. Lizardfolk. Kurarii

Description:

The Kur are a reptilian presenting race, although warm-blooded. These people have thick, scaled skin, often with thick, protective scales around the shoulders and chest. Powerfully built legs balanced with thick tails mean that the Kur are hard to move when they don’t want to be, although nobody accuses them of being a particularly fast race. The irises of the Kur are slitted like those of a lizard as well, and wide nostrils make them one of the better scent-tracking races across Iastrus. Colors tend to range from grey to green on their skin, while scales can be found in almost every color imaginable, a legacy of generations of gentle gene editing. Kur also have the largest range of height among the other races, easily ranging from 4 to 8 feet, sometimes within the same family.

History:

The Kur’s history stretches far enough back to be virtually unknown. Thier own myths speak of them being written into existence by an unnamed god-machine to fill the mountains and vales of thier original homeworld. Some tragedy is said to have struck, and the God-Machines of the Iatrus offered them a new home in the various worlds of the greater community. With them came extensive knowledge of metal-crafting, and it’s said even to this day that the best artifice is forged using Kur steel and alloys.

Culture:

The Kur do not believe in rushing anything. Every decision is to be carefully weighed by the individual before discussion in a group can begin in earnest. Other races often joke that this endless cycle of individual contemplation and group discussion means nothing ever gets done, but few would doubt the correctness of the cause any Kur takes up. They are not given to idle fancies.

Almost all Kur do some form of metalworking, even if just to craft the trinkets that form the Katra, the traditional formal chestpiece worn to important religious and social events. Even the smallest and smoothest Kur can easily attract positive attention with a well-crafted Katra forged by thier own hand and decorated with the small silver whorls and spirals of a master jeweler. It is said that Sunbar, the greatest craftsman of the current age, wore a Katra formed of nothing but intricately crafted trinkets so tightly interlayed and woven that no back chestplate was needed.
