One of Macken's more dangerous creations, a Jungle Rot spider is a giant spider struck and controlled by the God's 'blessing'. The moss strengthens the spider even as it decays it, creating an creature that can over hide out in the open amongst the jungle growth and not be seen.
Summary
When Macken, the jungle lord unleashes his blessing to a piece of land, not everything is immediately decayed and rebuilt by the Jungle Rot. Some creatures, like giant spiders, are too useful to simply break down for materials. Instead the rot settles into their carapace, sending tendrils through cracks in the carapace and controlling the spider's corpse for the glory of Macken. Such creatures may serve as traps or guardians for Jungle Seeds or as mounts for priests.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Jungle Rot spiders are almost entirely located wherever the jungle of Macken is only a couple of years old, as the rot will eventually kill its host and Macken doesn't create new Jungle Rot Spiders but instead replaces them with his own creations.
Lore
Macken will often repurpose the more dangerous creatures in an area given the Jungle blessing. The blessing given to such creatures is a mix of protective moss and controlling fungril growths that kills the mind of the creature and replaces it with the will of Macken. Giant spiders are a common target of such a blessing, ambushing those who would thwart his will.
Physical Appearance
The spider's original appearance is visible in places, but most of its exoskeleton will be covered in brown or green moss, which provides a natural camouflage and keeps the spider grounded with the power of the jungle. In addition, sacred fungus will have penetrated the spider within and without, cracking through the exoskeleton and providing a new nervous system that only seeks to obey Macken's directives.
