Description
Cats are four-legged domestic animals believed to have originated with the human homeworld. Each stands at just under a foot in height and is no more than six inches wide in most cases. The are completely fur covered, with swiveling ears on top of the head much like Baalkin. In addition, their face contains a short snout and a set of specialized long hairs called 'whiskers' on each side of the upper jaw. They have particularly long tails that are semi-prehensile, but are primarily used for communication.
Cats are one of the more intelligent breeds of animal kept as pets. They are very popular with farmers and merchants as an excellent choice for vermin management, much like their cousins the ferret. What makes them excellent service animals also makes them a particularly troublesome pet. Cats are known to stalk thier owners, attack strangers, and abuse other animals several times their size. They are highloy indepdent, and families with cats often comment that its never quite certain who is letting who stay in the house.
For all their continousness, there is no denying that cats are quite handsome creatures. They have suprsiginly good grooming and hygine habits for an animal and are known to bury their waste rather than let it stink up the domicle. The elvish author Hebron noted that his cat did indeed act like a prince, but also comported itself like one - a description that seems apt for most of the animals.
Many people mistakenly believe that Cats are from the Orcish homeworld, given how common they are in Orcish farmholds, but the truth is human records show cats having been part of their migration after integration. This perhaps explains the aggressive nature of the little beasts, but it cannot be denied that many a city-state is unknowingly relying on the animals to keep their grain stores from being overrrun.
There a dozens, possibly even hundreds, of breeds of cats. The sole difference tends to the be length of the coat and color of the animal, altough fans of the creatures also claim personalities to be different between the breeds. Cats, for their part, ill care about breeding and will happily mix with any other cat they find agreeable. This means that new breeds are being created all the time and even cats from the same litter may considered separate breeds from each other. To this end, the author recommends avoiding trying to id a breed of a cat and instead leave it alone - generally the best policy anyone should take towards such and agressive creature.
