List of Gods and Deities

By Region

The Warlands

Mea and Hofrem

Empyreal gods. Mea, the Earth Mother, and Hofrem, the Sky Father, are rulers of the Warlands pantheon. They are said to be the source of all life. The summer is the season of their marriage, and the rain is the essence of life which pours from the Sky and seeps into the fertile Earth, and so life itself is conceived. They have six children, who are gods of nature and of the four seasons. Mea's domain includes fertility, motherhood, marriage, nurturance, harvest, sustenance, and the earth. Hofrem's domain includes rain and storms, thunder and lightning, the sun, and the sky.

Mörygen

Empyreal god. The Warden Lord, god of the dead and the underworld. According to some, he is the brother of Mea, according to others, he is the brother of Hofrem. Mörygen presides over the dead and the various afterlifes they are shuffled off to-- the golden fields of glory, for fallen warriors, the halls of honour, for the good, the catacombs of condemnation, for the wicked, and the faded rivers, for the forgotten. His domain includes burial, silence, solitude, and judgement, and he is also associated with earth and stone.

Bjernkungr

Eminent god. A nature god, the Bear God, eldest son of Mea and Hofrem and twin brother of Gwenarha. Legends say it was he who first taught humanity to wield power, and his demigod son was crowned the first King of Men. He is currently the most commonly worshipped god in the Warlands. His domain includes might, war and battle, virility, conquest, and rulership.

Gwenarha

Eminent god. A nature god, the Moose Goddess, eldest daughter of Mea and Hofrem and twin sister of Bjerkungr. She is also widely acknowledged but not as worshipped in the Warlands as she once was. Not having ever borne children of her own, she is sometimes referred to as 'the Maiden Mother', for according to legend she helped her mother, Mea, deliver her younger siblings, and is the protector of women and girls. Historically, her priestesses were also midwives. Her domain includes guardianship, protection, sanctuary, pregnancy, and childbirth.

Aorosa

Eminent god. Goddess of Spring, the White Doe, Aorosa is the second youngest child of Mea and Hofrem. Many festivals are held across the Warlands in her honour to celebrate the arrival of spring and birth of new life. She is often characterized in legends as naive, emotional, flighty, and delicate, innocent yet a subject of desire. Her domain includes fertility, new birth (particularly of animals), flowers and blooming, purity, and the sunrise.

Central Gilden

Lyr

Eminent god. A goddess of healing and medicine. If ever a physician or surgeon isn't available, a cleric of Lyr would be just as preferable, and depending on where one is, might actually be more likely to be around.

Solvé

An Eminent God, goddess of the sun and primarily worshipped in Solril-- actually, the kingdom itself is named after her.

Northern Gilden

E'erendar

Empyreal god. The God of the End of All Things, of permanent, infinite ending, of eternal absence-- he is the opposite of existence. He is a being of consumption, of total destruction, of hate and yawning, unfillable void. Where other High Gods are like bright giant stars, E'erendar is a black hole. He also holds eternal grudges. His cult is called the Church of End, and he is worshipped universally (mandatory) in Dymin.

Veniathan

Luminus god. The Goddess of Time and Memory. Was once worshipped by the people of Tirosanioth in the northern highlands centuries ago, but since the fall of Tirosanioth before the Era of the Known World, Veniathan has ironically been forgotten by Gilden.

Xarjanna

Marzhdeem

Luminus god. The Zarthosian goddess of Mercy. Her name is often invoked even by those who don't actively worship her in the greater surrounding region. Her most famous place of worship is the Temple of Marzhdeem located deep within the deserts of Zarthosia, also called the Garden of Mercy, Oasis of Salvation, and Sanctuary of Thieves.

Paviti

Diadema god. God of pestilence and plague, from the greater Xarjanna region. Not considered a vengeful or malicious god by his followers, but seen as evil by others.

Themis

Empyreal god. The Adamedos goddess of Law, order, and discipline. She is also commonly worshipped in Sidusimpere, all the way over in central Gilden.

Global

Ferus

Empyreal god. The god of forges, furnaces, and kilns, also called the Forge Father. He presides over smiths and craftsmen, and is worshipped pretty much anywhere where they have those crafts, but especially by the Caromardun of the Multahn Mountains. He is considered one of the chief High Gods of the Creation domain.

Ide

Luminus god. The draconic goddess, mother and queen of all dragons. She was so enormous her body could completely encircle the world. Legend tells that she perished in the War of Nine, and when she fell upon the earth, her bones formed the Dragon's Spine Mountains, where she now awaits in her death-slumber to someday reawaken, her new body erupting from the mountains, to incinerate all of Gilden and build her divine, draconic empire from the ashes.

Clarification on classifications of gods and deities

Different gods fall into different categories depending on how powerful, or in a sense 'undiluted' they are. The highest of order of god are called Empyreal Gods. Next are Luminus Gods-- very major but not the most powerful, then Eminent Gods-- still considered major but not as powerful as Luminus, then Diadema Gods, which are considered minor gods, but still Whole Gods.

There are other divine entities, deities, that are somewhere between spirits and gods. Different levels of deities don't have fancy classification names, rather mostly just referred to as either major or minor deities.

Differences between types of spirits

'Spirit' can refer to basically any non-fae, non-mortal, non-divine entity. This includes angels, demons, and devils-- though more powerful devils are generally considered minor deities, actually. There are a lot of connotations around the terms 'angel' and 'demon'; angels are regarded by mortals as benevolent, pure, subliminately beautiful, celestial beings. Demons are seen as malevolent, hedonistic, maliciously beguiling, dark agents of chaos and sin. Some stereotypes are vaguely rooted in truth, but these descriptions aren't accurate nor sufficient definitions of either of these types of beings. Really, angels are just spirits that directly serve a god. It could be any god, including an evil one. A 'fallen angel' is one that has betrayed or been cast out by its divine master. Demons are spirits of the Domain of Chaos, specifically, and are not inherently malicious. Some are, but it comes down to individual personalty.

It should be noted that both angels and demons generally like to party, though angel and demon revelry looks very different.
