West Dvekmenia

West Dvekmenia was a Skorbund-ruled successor state of the Dvekmenu Empire.

History

The Kadanians

For its first century and a half or so, West Dvekmenia was ruled by the Kadanians, a Skorbund dynasty from Kostovia, around the modern Horyva. Under Odalvarg, they brought much of what had been the western portion of the Dvekmenu Empire, as well as territory that had never been part of it, under their control. Odalvarg, rather than ruling as another barbarian king as his father or the various kings in the area since 618, revived the title of Dvekmenu Emperor. Despite being Skorbund and ruling over a mixed population, the prestige of the Dvekmenu would see the Skorbunds of the kingdom assimilate into Dvekmenu culture. While the Kadanians and early Lodovigians still spoke Skorbund, all of their records were kept in Ald Duekman. The Kadanian dynasty under Budig was overthrown in 923 by Lodovig the Good. Under his rule, the so-called Western Rennaissance began as the area was at relative peace under one ruler again and Lodovig became a major patron of Dvekmenu culture. By the late 11th century, West Dvekmenu kings were as likely to have a native Dvekmenu name as a Skorbund one.
