Skysteel
Of all of the rare metals in Gedrian, the most coveted is skysteel.
Properties
Material Characteristics
While in its solid form it is a ver smooth substance, but in its liquid and gas forms it often forms into small clumps
Physical & Chemical Properties
Skysteel is a versatile and rare metal that is very flexible, light, flame-resistant, and durable making it useful in constructing armor and weapons.
Compounds
Sometimes skysteel is mixed with iron and steel to produce a high quality alloy that can produced faster and cheaper than skysteel.
Geology & Geography
It is found on high mountain peaks such as Dôr Kadhâ in the Axereach Peaks and Mt. Korth in Ornell.
Origin & Source
It can be harvested from a gas that floats around at the peaks of Dôr Kadhâ and Mt. Korth and from that it can be can be turned into a liquid via condensation in specialized vats.
Life & Expiration
Skysteel Gas loses it's consistency and stability after two hours from being harvested and after two hours it is liable to become highly poisonous, which makes producing skysteel very risky.
History & Usage
History
Skysteel was first sought after and discovered when a renowned weapon smith from Yärdnor named Ärli Unolian was sent by Prince Delüs to find the strongest and lightest metal to make his armor and weapons. She organized the first skysteel operation called Wedän Yelordunol that still controls the mainstream skysteel market and operates two functional facilities.
Reusability & Recycling
Skysteel products can be smolten and still have their properties; however, it is very dangerous.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Skysteel is a luxury because it is found in low quantities and because producing a small batch takes several hours. It is rarely found in the common marketplace as most skysteel goods are custom made and ordered, but small, illegal outposts will sell it on the black market if they use it for "good intentions".
Storage
Skysteel must be stored in cool locations while in its gas and liquid forms. While in its solid form it can withstand a lot of heat.
Law & Regulation
Most formal governments regulate the trade and production of skysteel, which is generally reserved for the upper class because of its hefty price tag. In the dwarven society skysteel is reserved only for the highest warriors in their society and even then it's still rare to find one who possesses skysteel armor and weaponry. The general guidelines for the regulation and production of skysteel was first laid out in Yärdnor in 425 C.G. and most other nations follow similar principles.
