Cranium Rat
Cranium rats are mutated vermins with enlarged brains possessing psychic capabilities. A singular cranium rat is not much smarter than an ordinary rat, but a swarm of them forms a hive mind capable of telepathy and even spellcasting. It is debated whether cranium rats were originally created by the chaotic energy of The Fellstar or if they predate it.
Sometimes a swarm of cranium rats learns to coordinate so well they can disguise themselves as a humanoid. That form is referred to as a "Mastermind". Even the Masterminds tend to keep to the outskirts of society, living in abandoned houses or sewer systems. The Undercity of Komplecza in Czenova is said to host several Masterminds.
