Phoenix Alloy
Phoenix alloy is a mixture of aldrum, endrum, and kidrum that is astonishingly easy to work with and slightly stronger than steel. Phoenix alloy, when first made, is eager to enter the form it is being worked into. It will self-enchant, taking on a moderate magical effect related to the intended purpose of the item and emotional state of the smith.
Phoenix alloy has a random chance (around 7%) to become awakened whenever it is forged or reforged. Awakened items have a basic personality (bloodthirsty, brave, gentle, etc) related to how the smith imagined it. This personality is not active, but rather is an influence over the wielder. When an awakened item is used in a way that fits its personality trait for several years, it increases in power and influence.
Every time an awakened item is reforged, it fights the smith- basically mind controlling them to not. The item, when reforged, will become stronger in its new form- and take a new personality trait. The more powerful the item being reforged the higher the test of willpower.
More powerful items may have more sophisticated traits and powers. Those of immense strength may even become sentient.
