The Legend of Dulles and Meran

Once in northern Garfarr there existed a farmer by the name of Dulles, loving husband that he was he named his horse after his wife, Meran. This horse was his most prized posession and he grew to love it, some say even more than his wife. One day after returning from a long trip to Aldarr Meran, his horse, went missing. The now extremely anxious and disstressed Dulles at first believed her to be stolen. After searching the nearby forest for Meran he finally spotted her a while away and followed her. Catching up with Meran at Dusk on the Arr river. He let her drink from the river and made camp. Relieved that he had brought the horse back into his posession, Dulles sank down on an improvised bed and fell asleep. This is when it happened.
His dream was visited by the spirit of Sagra Arr which commanded him to drown his beloved horse in a show submission.
Dulles awoke drenched in his own sweat, not knowing what to do he debated with himself till dawn. Could Sagra Arr really be this cruel to demand of him his most prized posession ? Should he knowingly ignore the commandment of this holy spirit ?
Defeated but not seeing any better alternative to following the commandment he filled Meran's saddlebags with rocks and led her into the river. The horse squealed in panic but was unable to resist the pull of the rocks, Dulles and the river and so Meran sank below the waves.
Dulles was devasted, he had just sacrificed what he had loved the most. He waded out of the Arr and collapsed overwhealed and exausted on the river banks
Once passed out he had another vision Sagra Arr visited him in his dream and heaped praise upon him for his devotion and promised him a prize worthy of a king.
Dulles awoke and to his surprise Meran leaned over him. But something was different, Meran's eyes were glowing bright and golden, her neigh was loud and roaring, her muscles defined and large and her mane shimmered like the finest silk. "Meran is it you?" he exclaimed.
"Yes beloved Master, it is me Meran."
A moment of silence followed. "Lord Sagra Arr commands your devotion to be rewarded, you have loved me more than any other thing and now we shall be one!"
With those words Dulles and Meran were merged and the species called Murse leaning on the combination of the names Meran and Dulles was created which is widely known today. It is not known what happened to Dulles and Meran afterhand, but it is believed that they lived happily ever after.
The Legend of Dulles and Meran is a popular Garfarrian Folk Legend, though it is especially popular amongst the followers of the Cult of Sagra Arr, amongst which it is not only seen as proof of Sagra Arr's divine power but also as a powerfull story about love and devotion. Scholars believe the Legend to be at least eight hundred years old, which marks about the same time Murses came about giving this story special credibility and a special place in scholarly debate. It is famously rejected as hearsay by all followers of the seven aspects.
A famous Bard from Lesaboca after hearing the story of Dulles and Meran is believed to have said "If everyone loved thy wife like Dulles loved Meran, I'd be as lonely as the sea."
