Contararr

Contararr are commonly known as men that have one or more ships under their command, making a living on the Arr as pirates, traders or mercenaries. Many Contararr have over the centuries been able to ascend to the highest echelons of Garfarrian society with some ancient sources even claiming that the Garfarrian empire itself was founded by such men.As the old Garfarrian proverb says:  

"A Contararr with one ship is a pirate, a Contararrwith a hundred a Conqueror." - Old Garfarrian Proverb

    The Contararr or "Counts of the River" are mostly known for their ways as pirates, though many amongst them have raised unimaginable fortunes trading near and far while others have forged powerfull legacies as mercenary commanders serving the most powerfull rulers in all of Garfarr.   To be a Contararr is to live on the water, seldom has the world seen more proficient seafarers. Contararr are used to a hard life and for many joining them is seen as a last resort to escape an even harder life at home. Bands of Contararr often follow highly successful charismatic leaders. Garfarr has seen many of these men come and go, creating Contararr Federations numbering hundreds of leaders and ships. One example of the power of the Contararr is the Tempest Federation headed by Lord Margila, after a decades long career as pirate Margila's Federation became so powerfull and uncontrolable that it was able to capture the fortress of Fortila and use it as a raiding base within the Bocaarr. Not even an intervention by the mighty Bocamarian fleet was able to stop them and even led to King Doma III of Bocamar being burned alive on his Flagship.
