Redpox

Redpox is a feared and dangerous disease that only infects werewolves', however that doesn't mean it may not be able to infect Guardians or other magical beings.   The reason it only seems to infect werewolves is because the fungus only infects the plants in Garda and the war Kingdom was the only kingdom that grew those plants.  Redpox was a dangerous disease that werewolves feared for centuries and once the War village slowly started going back to Garda after the war, the disease started up again...

Transmission & Vectors

The disease is spread through food and water contamination and once it becomes infectious, it can become air born. It comes from a virus can travel into certain types of food if the food hasn't been clean or fresh enough. It continues to infect the water or plant until it is very unhealthy or dead. People who don't realise their crops or water has been infected can eat/drink it and then become sick.

Causes

The cause is a fungi-like virus that can grow on certain types of plants and food. It grows and infects the plant if exposed to it and continues to infect it until it is dead. People caught this disease after not seeing the signs of the infection in water or their crops and thus infects the person.

Symptoms

Symptoms include:
  • Sore red pox spots all around the body
  • Dizziness
  • Intense thirst
  • Intense fever
  • Fatigue
  • Delusions
  • Chest pain
Most people died after 2-5 days after infection.

Treatment

  • Keeping people isolated can stop the infection from spreading as it is highly contagious. Since injections hadn't been invented the time the disease was there in Garda they couldn't rely on that.
  • Keeping everything, especially food and water, clean
If the person had a good immune system they can survive the disease.

Prognosis

Stage 1: The person develops sore red spots all around their body and maybe a small fever. Stage 2: The person becomes dizzy and the fever increases. Stage 3: The person become very fatigue and the intense thirst comes on. Chest pain begins Stage 4: The person becomes delusional and are unable to get out of bed.  Stage 5: If people do don't recover after stage 4, they die after 2-5 days of infection.

Sequela

If the person recovers from the disease they can become immune. A person may still be tired after recovering from the disease or their body may still be quite sore.

Affected Groups

The most effected groups are, of course, the werewolf species.  It mostly infects farmers or people that work in gathering the food from the forest.  It can infect anyone of any gender, age or body type.

Hosts & Carriers

Plants, sometimes water and werewolf's are the main carriers.

Prevention

People can prevent themselves from getting the disease from recognising the signs of a fungi infection on the plant or in the water and avoid it at all costs. The disease used to be quite common amounts werewolves as they didn't understand what was causing it but after they realised what the cause was they quickly began to see the signs and avoid anything infected with the fungus at all costs.

Epidemiology

The disease is highly contagious and moves through the population through person-to-person and through eating and drinking contaminated food and water. In 789 AD an epidemic started in the War kingdom that lasted for nearly two years.

History

The first case of red pox was around 500 BC and the first epidemic of the disease was only a couple of years later. The wolves, not having the best living conditions before the wolf revolution, spread like wildfire and took a toll on the wolf population. It lasted for 5 years before people realised the cause and how to avoid it. Werewolves became terrified for the disease from then on.     A serious case of the disease came again in 789 AD and lasted for about 2 years. After the War, when the War Kingdom left Garda and was no longer an official kingdom, cases of the disease dropped as they weren't using the same plants that mainly carried the disease anymore. However it came back again briefly in 2018, scaring the Werewolf population in Wuhan. They werewolves began working on a vaccine for the disease ever since.

Cultural Reception

When a person becomes infected people imminently put them in isolation and are scared for the victim. People refuse to go anywhere near an infected person and instead just try to help and nurse them from afar.
