The Wild Forest
A vast and ancient forest located at the foot of the Iron-Spine Mountains in the furthest Eastern reaches of Tennebria. It is uncharted and entirely unknown though the people of the nearby town of Summerpeak speak of lost whispers among trees and strange lights, dancing in the twilight boughs. Any who have dared set foot inside know there is an unmistakable otherworldly presence heavy in the air here. It's most distinctive feature is the river which flows from the forest known as The Emerald Channel due to the veridian waters that meander lazily down through the hills and through Summerpeak.
Geography
Nestled at the foot of the Iron-Spine Mountains of Tennebria the forest is protected by these stone giants from the North and the East which make access all but impossible. The western tree line extends for over 100 miles from the foot of the mountain, crossing the rolling hills and gentle slopes of the Twilight Downs and travelling alongside the Great South Road towards Hollow-Ember.
Farms work the verdant and fertile land within a few miles of the forest though these are little more than individual homesteads manned by the farmer and their relatives. Though there is arable land and abundant lumber here the people of Summerpeak know better than to incur the Forest's wrath for the chance of some easy coin. The trees have never been harmed and the people have lived in relative harmony despite the distance from the comforts and safety of Central Tennebria.
One resource the people have made use of however is The Emerald Channel. The bountiful and exceptional river whose waters runs brilliant shades of green throughout the year. No-one living knows where the river originates from or why it has the properties it possesses but all are happy to share in the abundant trade that it brings the docks of Summerpeak.
Fauna & Flora
The Forest is home to a great many plants, animals and stranger things altogether. At any time of the day the dwellers of the Forest can be heard serenading the land whether it be the birdsong of the dawn or the keening howl of the night.
The Forest's wildlife and ecology remain a mystery however, as those brave or foolish enough to cross the tree-line have never been seen again.
Natural Resources
The land around the Forest is incredibly fertile allowing all manner of farming to thrive. However the denizens of Summerpeak have found that the vitality of the Forest flows so strongly through food grown from its soil that any who eat it can sustain themselves on those crops alone! This discovery has led to a reduction in the keeping of live-stock and the like in the area.
The same can be said of The Emerald Channel, though fish can be seen abundantly frolicking in the rippling waters the only thing locals "fish" for are the nutritious plant-life which carpets the riverbed.
