History of Time Magic and it's Users
A Guidebook written by Daxo
The original manuscript can be found in the Library of Teslite, home of the Copper Gnomes.
What is a Chronomancer
Chronomancers gain their magical potency directly from time itself - harnessing the energies of flowing time, and manipulating them to suit their gains.
It is a most dangerous tradition, as the practice of slowing, reversing, or diverting the flow of time can accidently tear novices to pieces, spreading them thinly across millennia, or sometimes even drop them wholesale into a new or old era, with no way of returning home.
Masters, however, walk the generations as planeswalkers walk the cosmos. Experienced chronomancers can reliably and literally end most conflflicts before they even begin.
Chronomancers typically learn to control their powers through an eternity of studies, usually under the guidance of an older mentor. However there is no greater test than altering reality. Many aspiring chronomancers test their newly honed powers by changing the outcome of a significant event by travelling through different timelines to craft the most favored result
Temporal Magic Left Over in Today's Spells
This arcane art of Chronomancy is rare even amongst the most powerful wizards in the realm.
During my research I dicovered that many spells are remnants of the long forgotten school of magic.
Spells such as Blink and Misty Step are actually the user pausing time and space around them to traverse to a point in which they would already be at the new spot.
This is not full blown chronomancy but magic such as those would not be possible without the groundwork that ancient wizards layed down.
Blur is another spell where you forward and reverse yourself through time to cause everyone else to see you an an obscured vision of yourself.
Karenia v. Briwood
Some wizards have been known to be terrible at healing magic but can use spells such as Cure Wounds where they just speed up the eventual healing of a wound which heals mush faster then natural time passing. This inherently makes different parts of the body slightly older than other parts. Most mages ignore this drawback.
Infamously in the case of Ms. Karenia vs. the Wizard Malstrom Briwood; the law was enacted for all civilized magical institutions that a wizard must inform the injured/maimed/severed or otherwise injured victim that this temporal magic would have this effect. Karenia, a 23 year old milkmaid from Skygarde would have never been wiser if she had not started having wrinkles under her right eye after a routine eye correction procedure. She was upset that she looked like an old woman on one side of her face.
True Chronomagic
These types of spells are not that interesting for someone deeply interested in chronomancy.
There are rumours of scrolls around the world that contain the last known written spells from the original Spellbook itself. Morrin SIlverstaff and Adonis Oakhand wrote that book when magic was supposed to be innocent and pure for anyone to use. Over generations laws have been put in place to avoid things like the time dimension collapsing and all existance being blinked as if it never existed.
I have been sworn to secrecy on the locations but I was able to enter a temple where these scrolls had been in safekeeping for millenia. All I will say is that I had to bundle up to get there.
Some of these spell titles I was able to get a glimpse at were:
* BANE SHOT
* BOLT OF TIME (EPOCH BOLT)
* BONESWORD
* DELAYED BLAST TIME BOMB
* ENERVATION
* HALT
* HUSH
* QUANTUM SHIFT
* REFLEXIVE SHOT
* REVERT TIME
* RIDDLE
* RIP THROUGH TIME
* SPELL BLADE
* SPHERE OF TIME
* TIME BOMB
* WOEFUL STAB
I am a gnome, we have pretty good memories.
