The Veylin
At night, blips of light in the distance flicker in the horizon as the silhouettes of shrubs and rocks manifest from the muted glow of the snow. Arolai's lights moved in the sky, A soft curling green flowed deeper into the frigid. Tulok noted hints of orange in the lights, the melting may come sooner than expected. He still had an hour of travel in the open frozen wastes before he returns. Walking out in the open wastes soon after dusk will greet you with strong winds from the Mountain of Pure Ice.
Tulok held his hands on the inside of his leather vest, feeling the warmth of the precious skaal oil that coats the innards of all clothing of the Veylin. The skaal oil almost made his body feel as if he were in the clan hall. While most of the clan lived in yurts of canvas, the clan hall was made out of wood from the black pine forest. The low flat roof of the building hardly big enough to cover the entire clan during feasts. Above the fireplace held a piece of cloth with charcoal markings of an arch with a dot under it, the symbol of the Veylin clan. Approaching the clan grounds, Tulok saw the warm lights and one of the gaurds outside the clan border alert and carefully observing him. He knew that wearing his wolf pelt the gaurd would recognize his sillhouette.
"Elder, you return later than you specified, the clan has been worried"
"Arolai be with you, Tace, I only did what had to be done as quickly as I could" Tulok's voice cracked reminding him this is the first time he has spoken this day. "Continue your gaurd Tace, I must meet with the other Icemenders in the clan hall, Age is chilling my bones faster than it used to, praise Arolai"
"Praise be Arolai" Tace mimicked.
Tulok walked past the yurts dotted in the snow, noticing how the smoke rising from the tops of the yurt would vaporize from the frigid wind. Reaching the center of the clan grounds the only building made out of wood stood firm. The light from out the windows made Tulok's bones weep for the pleasant warmth inside. If he were a fledgling, he would sprint through the snow to escape cold. However, his body is painted with age, the idea of him sprinting anywhere made him chuckle to himself.
Tulok walked in to see Kai, the youngest of the three Icemenders of the clan, With the head of a wolf overtop his own to prove his worth as one.
"Elder, you took a day longer than you predicted, are our fears now becoming a reality?" Kai said hoping that he was wrong
"Worry not, wolfbrother, that day is yet to come" Tulok looked at the banner of his clan, an arch covering a lonely dot. "however, upon my meditations, I have foreseen something that I needed more time to meditate on."
"What could it be Elder?" Kai was bracing as if his worst fear was about to thaw.
"Arolai blessed me with a vision, deep into the north where Arolai's lights flow, An axe made from the blood of the king of evil himself lays dormant inside the mountain of pure Ice." A chilling cold went through the cabin as if the walls never existed. Kai froze, Motionless as the wolf head above him.
The door of the clan hall swung open, two older men with a wolf head atop of their own walked in, Icemenders. "Welcome, wolfbrothers, we have much to discuss, I say we get some water boiling it has been an unusually frigid day."
