Day 1, year 1
My mouth tasted like I had eaten too much fast food, too late at night after drinking too much and passing out for too long. My eyes were still crusty from sleep; so much so I could open the eyelids, they were that crusty. I moved my hand to my face to clear my eyes, but instead I just slapped my self unable to control my hand more than hurl it in a direction. Once my hand came to rest, I crawled it up my face like a large spider trying to investigate a movement on it web. Once at my eyes, I could feel the sandy deposits in the corner of my eyes and lining the folds between my lids, but I found I could actually move my fingers. They simply lied there limply, regardless of what my brain was telling them to do. Instead I willed my arm to move back and forth, clearing my eyes somewhat while grinding the residue of sleep further into my eye folds. The blurred light broke thru and I could see orbs of white above me. As my sight cleared, my eyes began to focus until I saw the white orbs were not angels descended down from the heavens calling me home, but light emitting diode clusters regularly dispersed in the ceiling.
I let my arm fall down to the side no longer wishing to control it anymore. "What happened?" I asked myself. I couldn't remember drinking enough to cause this. I felt a burning in my gut, rather in my chest like when I would eat one of Franco's Hot Philly's on 7th and C after work and regret it later that night when I my ass burned and indigestion set in. I rocked myself back and forth a couple of time to get myself sideways on whatever I was laying on. It gave a little underneath me, but definitely wasn't my memory foam mattress. I loved that mattress.
Taking increasingly larger deep breaths, I tried to control what I thought was bile and fixed my eyes into the seam between the floor and the wall. Letting my body adjust to the new environment I found myself in. Eventually, without moving my body, i started to scan my eyes around the sparse room without moving my head. Everything was grey; floor, walls, ceiling. The sliding door appeared open, I could just barely see the edge of the door recessed into the wall.
After a couple minutes, I was able to pull myself up. My heart burn settling somewhat after getting some water from the small refresher in the corner. Maybe it was just that I hadn't eaten in a while instead of what I had eaten that was bothering me. But that's weird, I ate ramen noodles for lunch that Stacey... the images flooded in and I remembered. Remembered what happened before. I starred into the small mirror above the sink and remembered, my fingers white from gripping the sink so hard.
I stood up and walked to the doorway, the hallway wasn't lit, but I could see light falling out from other doorways to my left and movement. Like when your... partner... just turned the lights out in your apartment and is making their way to bed. Their slightly darker outline barely visible in the darkness. A couple clinking and tinkling sounds echoed from around the corner I could barely make out with those darker shapes disappearing around the corner as well. With a cleansing breath I moved in that direction.
