Giantings
The giantings are believed to have been created by the Giants as soldiers in the War of Fire against the forces of Otherfire, and to serve in other roles where a smaller hand than that of the Jotnar was needed, but greater strength than the Giant-Kin. Giantings are divided on whether this creation involved the dwindling of certain jotnar lines, or a separate act of creation by the divine Alderen. They are not believed to be capable of divine communion, and as such are considered True Gauthics.
Half-Giants
As their name implies, half-giants are around half the height of a full-grown jotun. They live alongside their larger cousins, often working in specialised areas.- Cyclopes are marked out by their single eyes. They primarily work as herders for the livestock of the oetnar.
- Hecatonchires have multiple heads and many arms, usually two-to-four of the former and six-to-twelve of the latter. They are traditionally artisans, labouring in the forges of the elnar and the stoneworks of the bergnar, doing work too fine for their masters. Many also show skill in mechanisms.
- Forest Giants use their smaller size to thrive in a place where jotnar cannot. Hunters and foresters for the most part, they are noted for their green colouration and rangy build.
- Cave Giants traditionally work the mines. They are broad and stocky, with long, powerful arms and no distinct neck.
- Wave Giants are aquatic, amphibious giants with long, webbed digits, and gills as well as lungs. They have bluish skin and long, green hair which tangles with sea weed.
Minor Giants
Minor giants are half the size of half-giants. They are typically less sophisticated, thanks to a history of exploitation and suppression by the half-giants.- Ogres are big and strong, often employed as soliders and mercenaries. A few ogre tribes have managed to develop more sophisticated cultures and even small nations since the collapse of the Orthnar.
- Buccans are minor giants with innate magical abilities. They tend to live in small family groups among ogre tribes or states, enjoying high status and being respected as advisers. Their powers are somewhat individual, so each finds their own role.
- Trolls are aggressive and violent, driven by insatiable hunger. Their metabolism is a furnace, burning fuel at an incredible rate to fuel their regenerative healing ability. They live in small, family groups and practice elaborate grooming rituals which serve to prevent their bodies forming malignancies by trying to heal around splinters and other foreign bodies.
