Changelings

Changelings are a rare Gauthic lineage, created to act as spies by the Imperium of Borad during the Era of Empires. They are the result of extensive transmutation using fae and primal energies, resulting in an ability to rapidly reshape their own bodies. They used this ability to infiltrate enemy strongholds, both short- and long-term, with some changelings spending years living under assumed identities.   By the time of the Cataclysm, the changelings were loathed for their actions on behalf of the Imperium. After, the surviving changelings did their best to disappear, some retreating to isolated communities with others of their kinds, other trying to live permanently as members of another lineage. Even today, changelings tend to be distrusted, although the reasons for this are no longer well-remembered.   The suspicion of changelings is not helped by the actions of doppelgangers. The products of attempts to replicate changeling abilities, doppelgangers almost invariably utilise the malleability of Otherfire in their creation resulting in the desired abilities being coupled with a drive to destroy those who have the fixed identity and social stability that they lack.
