Session 0 Outline

The necessary steps to running a successful Session 0 for campaigns in the Gaion setting.

Session 0 Steps

  1. Campaign Type: Traditional or Gaioforce
  2. Campaign Length: serialized, mini-campaign (2-10 sessions) or one-shot
  3. Races: all except Spelljammer & homebrew-specific races. Also added Frost Elves (Moon Elves are extinct & Frost Gnomes are an artificial race created by Wizard Santa 2 as slaves)
  4. Classes: all
  5. Subclasses: all except Unearthed Arcana & other homebrew (can work with DM to see if a UA subclass can be used)
  6. Backgrounds: all except Spelljammer & homebrew-specific backgrounds
  7. Starting Location (serialized & mini-campaigns only): Dalterra, Hythenos, Thagoria, Cyregnor, Aikanos (underwater, must play aquatic races or be constantly casting Water Breathing), Vulsemar (10th level or higher)
  8. DM-Determined Boundaries (DMDBs): in-game SA, in/out-of-game pedophilia/bestiality, bigotry, bullying other players/DM, PvP outside of DM-authorized exceptions
  9. Player-Determined Boundaries (PDBs): players can either submit openly or anonymously, but everyone who submits must all submit in the same fashion.

House Rules (we decide together if we want any or no amount of these)

  1. Nat20s & Nat1s: RAW, these only matter for attack rolls. In this house rule, critical successes & failures apply to saving throws & ability checks as well.
  2. Dual spellcasting: RAW, you can only cast one leveled spell per round with your Action & Bonus Action (Reaction spells are not impacted by this). In this house rule, you can cast two leveled spells per round with your Action & Bonus Action, provided that one is no more than half the level of the other (ex. Casting a 4th level spell with your Action & a 2nd level spell with your Bonus Action).
  3. Majority Attendance Rule: if we have at least a majority of players in attendance for a given session, we will play on the scheduled day (ex. 3 out of 4/5 players, 4 out of 6 players, 2 out of 3 players). If the session is too important for any player to miss, the remaining players can opt to either play a prequel session with their characters, a side adventure with their characters, or a one-shot with new characters.
