GG Chapter 5: The Bogwild

The Session

The boys set up a ramshackle camp & locate a fungal nest. During their watch, they see several creatures (Cordybats, Cordybog Drakes, Draguars, Treants, & a Blight horde led by a Dryad). They wake up to see a creepy hag hut in their path, but they fly over it in flock formation.

The Trek

After a sloppy survival check. the party rolls d100s:

• Team Kranalok: 46 (Thri-kreen hunters)
• The Party: 91 (The Feathered Hag)
• Team Servanis: 47 (Bullywug hunters)

The bois encounter the hag again, who offers them tea or a chance to play the Wish Game. After hearing the rules of both games, the flock declines and heads on their way. After a bit more travel through the nightmarish Bogwild, the bois hear the horrifying sound of the Sporetalker nearby. Kennifer casts Longstrider (3rd level) to speed up the party. The bois stealth, narrowly avoiding the Sporestalker. They are eventually tracked by the Servanis team, but they lead them into a trap to fight the Kranalok team. After Team Servanis kills Team Kranalok, the party surprise attacks the surviving serpents.

Surprise Round

• Skylark: Casts Fireball (3rd level) on the snakefolk, who all fail their saves. 29 fire damage, killing the snake-head guy (Malison) and deeply injuring the other one. The Abomination is injured, but not bloodied.
• Kennifer: Casts Flaming Sphere (2nd level) on the dying guy, then Druidcrafts a flower onto his head
• Mistral: Kills the Malison, then attacks the Abomination for 6 piercing/3 necrotic

Round 1

• Skylark: yams on the Abomination with a hammer, dealing 12 damage & 14 damage (26 total).
• Kennifer: Talon slashes the snake for 2 damage, then shits in his eye
• Mistral: 7 piercing/4 necrotic/1 pull-out damage.

Aftermath

The flock loots the snakepeople and find 30 gp, a twin axe & hammer, and twin scimitars. They also saw more of those mysterious birds watching them, just like back at the myconid village and shortly after. They head into Gau'Sharan's Grove, the Heart of the Cordybog.

They find Gau'Sharan's Egg in the center of the beautifully horrifying chamber, surrounded by a magical barrier and the wooden, rotted corpse of Gau'Sharan himself. After the gang uses various abilities (Detect Magic, Divine Sense & a Perception/Nature check), Kennifer casts a powerful Dispel Magic on the barrier surrounding the egg, successfully disrupting the ancient magicks. However, the entire chamber reacts to this, eventually sprouting five entities determined to protect the egg:

• A Young Forest Dragon (poison) head sprouting from a tree on the left side, mutated with abberant fungus & mandibles on each side of the maw
• A Young Forest Dragon (acid) head sprouting from a tree on the right side, mutated with abberant fungus & mandibles on each side of the maw
• A Purple Worm-like monster made of abberant vines & fungus
• A mutated Sporestalker head and scythes
• The corpse of Gau'Sharan reanimated by druidic magicks powered by Gau'Sharan's dying will
