Kar'Rhyshan
While named for the city-state of Kar’Rhyshal, their ethnic group can be found scattered throughout that desert region and into Nuvari and Rhydin as well. They originally lived as neighbors to El Quethe and Günderland, but following the Cataclysm, found themselves as unwelcome refugees in those lands. They crossed the newly formed deserts on horseback, making it halfway around the world before they met with their now supreme deity, the water-horse god Kar’Rysh. In general, they are a tall, lean and straight-limbed people, with dark hair that may be wavy, curly or straight.
Culture
Common Dress code
Although women tend to dress somewhat modestly, with various head coverings and veils, it is not a hard and fast rule. It is a practical fashion that helps protect skin from the sun or is handy to have in case of wind kicking up the sand, and so they are often removed indoors, and only the conservative will make a fuss about immodest attire, especially if it's clear that the person is not a local. Women and men that devote themselves to the goddess of arcane secrets and the night wind may remain veiled at all times in public.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Fair, soft skin can be an indicator of wealth, someone that can afford to stay out of the sun with a skilled trade of some kind. Cosmetics and facial tattooing is common, with various patterns indicating honors, heritage, or crimes.
Gender Ideals
Though women are generally well educated and may inherit property, wealth and conduct business, they are barred entry from branches of military service and are discouraged from traveling without sufficient protection, which naturally puts a damper on political aspirations. A female merchant may have to make use of proxies or magic in order to secure shipments and meet with trading partners beyond the borders of the city. As a result of this, it is not uncommon for women of the middle class to study magic as much as their finances allow, and those with a natural talent for magic find work easily. As a result, arcane magics have taken on a somewhat feminine connotation.
