Günderlanders

Günderland was a rich and thriving agricultural region prior to the Cataclysm. When the water was lost, so was their fortune and a great many of their people. To this end, Günderlanders practiced highly unorthodox methods of population stabilization—they have an extraordinary number of undead, both intelligent and otherwise to fill critical roles in their society and sometimes, to retain familial power for decades longer than they might otherwise.

Common Taboos

Waste of any kind is considered extremely ugly and evidence of a weak character. People who waste food, water and materials especially are frowned upon, but habits and customs that other societies embrace such as haggling over prices the Günderlanders consider to be a waste of time and is looked upon as frightfully rude.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

It is difficult to state a solitary standard of beauty within Günderland. Because they so embrace Planards, The Dead and many mixed-race persons, this leads to an extremely diverse populace. In general, the living are favored, and so as is true of all peoples, traits that evince good health and fertility are the most sought after.

Gender Ideals

Günderland is fairly egalitarian where it comes to the sexes, as a direct result of their crisis and reordered societal structure. Everyone is expected to pull his or her own weight, and families act as tightly knit units, especially amongst the aristocracy. There is heavy pressure on both sexes to reproduce, and a husband is as likely to be chastised for not performing his duties if they have what is perceived as an insufficient number of children as his wife. Frequent pregnancies have the potential to put some women behind in their education or career if they are debilitating, but women are generally considered heads of household and make many decisions regarding family money, matches and purchases.

Courtship Ideals

Amongst the upper classes, matches are often arranged by heads of families in regard to their younger, living relatives to make political matches and as often as not, select for desirable traits in their offspring.
