Calantha
At various times in its history, Calantha has been a hive of piracy and a Dragostahni protectorate--a place to exile undesirable elements. They have since declared their independence and frequently clash with the Dragostahni navy. It is located northeast from Rhydin and due east of the southernmost regions of Dragostahd. The only mainland holding is the province of Rionel.
Calantha is very forward-thinking in political terms, governed by a parliament made up of those who have the most influence on the economic health of the country. All those who own a vessel, from warships to small fishing vessels qualify to vote for their regional members of parliament. All those who own a vessel are also automatically considered part of the Calanthan navy in wartime. Many people that call Calantha home are fiercely patriotic.
Calantha itself is named for the half-millet family Calan, which was instrumental in its founding.
Geography
Calantha is a chain of volcanic islands situated in the eastern sea off the coast of Annergand. Though the four largest are the only ones with notable levels of habitation, there are a great many very small islands that are home to intentional hermits and the victims of marooning, forgotten about if there's no other reason to visit. Some of these islands are little more than mossy rocks that are swallowed up and vanish during high tides and secret underwater caves abound.
Fauna & Flora
The intensely fertile volcanic soil gives the foundation for a lush and vibrant web of life on and around the islands. Some of the islands support the growth of valuable ebony trees, which are both difficult to cultivate and to harvest and must be carefully managed.
