History

Transfiguration was developed alongside the discovery of Arcane magic by the gnomes closest to Fellen Thunderdust. By using Neutral Essence one can exam objects and alter aspects of them by following the laws of equivalent exchange. It’s fusion ability gave birth to the wand and staff industry that booms throughout the magical communities across Gaia and when combined with Enchanting allows one to move enchants between objects, as long as the receiver has an appropriate gem.
Generally Transfiguration is used by those seeking to experiment and thus has been a huge boon to almost all mages.

Mechanics

Experimentation

The core practice of Transfigurist and what most spend their time doing. By using their spells to toy around with physical objects or even essence, in different amounts, different forms and with different components various outcomes can occur, especially when enchanting is involved. The unpredictable and dangerous nature of these experiments is why many mages learn and study within schools or guilds, fledgling protection wards prone to failure.
Transfiguration allows for magical experimentation roleplay, especially when combined with other magics or feats. When conducting experiments it is highly recommended to do it in the presence of an LT or if unable to do so, screenshot and sent to an LT. Any number of things can happen and by using these spells in conjunction with other things new things may be discovered.

The Four Ranks

To judge the progression of a Transfigurist, four Ranks are given in accordance with the base magic rules. Basic, Adept, Expert, and Master spellcasters. A Transfigurist must abide by their Rank for a minimum of Two Months, allowing them to become a Master Transfigurist at six.
  (T1) Basic Spellcaster | 0 Months | 10 Essense At Maximum
  (T2) Adept Spellcaster | 2 Months | 15 Essense At Maximum
  (T3) Expert Spellcaster | 4 Months | 20 Essense At Maximum
  (T4) Master Spellcaster | 6 Months | 25 Essense At Maximum

Magical Abilities

As a general rule of thumb, the larger the object the more emotes are required to affect it. For every increase in size an additional emote is required. For example, objects that can be physically held may require 3 emotes to change but a 1 cubic meter object requires 4 emotes.

[ Examination ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 3+ | Essence: 5 Desc: Like the name implies, Examination allows one to reveal the properties of objects by enveloping them in essence and then, prodding, pocking, measuring, and dissecting the object. By then returning some of this essence to themselves the Transfigurist may learn what the object is composed of.
Mechanics: The greatest challenge to examinations is size. A Transfigurist's ability to extract information from larger and larger objects grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 Examination can extract information from objects that can be physically held.
  • At rank 2 Examination can extract information from 1 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 3 Examination can extract information from 2 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 4 Examination can extract information from 3 cubic meter objects.

  •   The revealed information contains durability, melting, boiling and freezing points (in turn its average temperature). Chemical properties such as but not limited to, volatility are also revealed.
Transfigurist versed in metal work will find they can deduce metals.
  • This also extends to other crafts such as alchemy or carpentry.
  • The spell requires a minimum of 5 essence to cast, but will only lose 1 when the spell finishes.
      Redlines:
  • Cannot be used in combat or for combat advantage.
  • The object must be within 10 blocks with line of sight at all levels.
  • Cannot be used on living things. Must be dead or inorganic.
  • Spells can be examined but this requires capturing them in a stable, stationary state.
  • Cannot be used to learn alchemy recipes by examining completed alchemical objects.
  • Examining an object with enchants merely allows you to know what kind of enchant is on it, not how they were done.
  • This may be used to find out the components of alloys but the Transfigurist must have examined the components before. For example tin and copper are combined to make bronze.

    [ Transmutation ]

    [ Change Color ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 3+ | Essence: 5 Desc: A Transfigurist can change the color of objects. This follows the same rules throughout all Transfiguration spells, equivalent exchange must not be violated.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to change the color of larger and larger objects grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can change the color of objects that can be physically held.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can change the color of 1 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can change the color of 2 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can change the color of 3 cubic meter objects.

  •   Redlines:
  • The Transfigurist can change multiple factors of the color, such as tint, shade and hue.
  • Follows equivalent exchange. As color is a physical property, it may be changed freely.
  • The changing of color follows RGB laws.

  •

    [ Change Shape ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 3+ | Essence: 5 Desc: A Transfigurist can change the shape of objects. This follows the same rules throughout all Transfiguration spells, equivalent exchange must not be violated.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to change the shape of larger and larger objects grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can change the shape of objects that can be physically held.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can change the shape of 1 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can change the shape of 2 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can change the shape of 3 cubic meter objects.

  •   Redlines:
  • Greatly altering the shape of enchanted objects (anything more than aesthetic changes and repair) will deform it enough that enchantments on it are rendered useless.
  • Although a Transfigurist could create a weapon with Transmutation, unless they know the exact process of how to forge it and replicate it with their magic, the weapon will not come out nearly as strong as simply creating it normally.
  • Even if the Transfigurist knew the exact process to smith a blade, they may only sharpen it with a limited amount of precision.

  •

    [ Change Temperature ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 3+ | Essence: 5 Desc: A Transfigurist can change the temperature of objects. This follows the same rules throughout all Transfiguration spells, equivalent exchange must not be violated.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to change the temperature of larger and larger objects grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can change the temperature of objects that can be physically held.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can change the temperature of 1 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can change the temperature of 2 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can change the temperature of 3 cubic meter objects.

  •   Redlines:
  • Cannot create plasma.
  • If Change Temperature is used to change an object’s state of matter, the surrounding conditions of temperature determine whether or not it continues to exist in the modified state. (e.g. transmuting ice into water in a tundra will not last).
  • An item may not have its temperature altered beyond the bounds of 0F to 212F or -18C to 100C.

  •

    [ Change Density ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 3+ | Essence: 5 Desc: A Transfigurist can change the density of objects. This follows the same rules throughout all Transfiguration spells, equivalent exchange must not be violated.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to change the density of larger and larger objects grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can change the density of objects that can be physically held.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can change the density of 1 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can change the density of 2 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can change the density of 3 cubic meter objects.

  •   The Transfigurist may compress/decompress an object making it up to 50% denser/50% less dense than it was before, though decreasing/increasing its size by the factor its density was increased/decreased, as well as making it heavier/lighter. For example, making a gold ingot 50% less dense will make it 50% weaker, yet it will also become 50% bigger and 50% lighter relative to it's previous size.
      Redlines:
  • Cannot decrease/increase density past 50%.
  • Altering density simply increases the weight relative to it's size as it changes.
  • An item with Altered Density may not be used with another item with Altered Physical Properties (Any other Alteration Enchantment).
  • Cannot alter the density of an object larger than a cubic meter.

  •

    [ Change Position ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 3+ | Essence: 5 Desc: A Transfigurist can change the position of objects. This follows the same rules throughout all Transfiguration spells, equivalent exchange must not be violated.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to change the position of larger and larger objects grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can change the position of objects that can be physically held.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can change the position of 1 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can change the position of 2 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can change the position of 3 cubic meter objects.

  •   The Transfigurist may choose an object within their range and use their essence to freely move it through space. The fastest an object can ever move is as fast as a paper airplane but as a rule of thumb, the heavier an object, the slower and more difficult it will be to manipulate. This spell's value lies mostly in lifting small objects with incredible ease for a well studied Transfigurist.
      Redlines:
  • This spell is largely for flavor.
  • Change Position does not require a thorough understanding of the object in question's makeup via Examination.
  • The caster is able to utilize this spell on multiple objects as long as they don't accumulate a weight over 25lbs/~11kg in total.
  • This spell CANNOT be used in combat and does not have the same versatility as a Traveler’s [ Telekinesis ].
  • The caster is able to perform separate transmutation spells while Change Position is active.
  • Objects traveling faster than a thrown paper airplane may not have this spell casted on them.

  •

    [ Fusion ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 4+ | Essence: 5 Desc: A Transfigurist can fuse together objects. This follows the same rules throughout all Transfiguration spells, equivalent exchange must not be violated.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to fuse objects of larger and larger sizes grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can fuse together objects that can be physically held.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can fuse together 1 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can fuse together 2 cubic meter objects.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can fuse together 3 cubic meter objects.

  •   The outcome of the combined inputs may not exceed three cubic meters in total volume. Like all Transmutation spells Examination must have been casted on the components to be fused beforehand at least once by the Transfigurist. Although melding a couple metals into an alloy may be simple for aTransfigurist to figure out, complex processes, such as fusing many components into something like a clock will require the Transfigurationist to know how the process works entirely.
      Redlines:
  • Alloys that do not exist in real life with mundane metals/nonmetals may not be created.
  • Creating alloys/mixtures that involve lore materials requires speaking to LT permission.
  • The outcome of the inputs may not exceed three cubic meters in total size.
  • There is no theoretical limit as to how many inputs may be fused, but the more components, the more essence is spent.
  • You cannot create complex creations such as crossbows or clockwork-based devices if your character does not know the process.
  • This can be used to infuse Magical Foci with special cores besides gems, thus creating magical wands or staffs.

  •

    [ Fission ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 4+ | Essence: 5 Desc: A Transfigurist can split objects into their base forms. This follows the same rules throughout all Transfiguration spells, equivalent exchange must not be violated.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to fuse objects of larger and larger sizes grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can split objects that can be physically held into their base form.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can split 1 cubic meter objects into their base form.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can split 2 cubic meter objects into their base form.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can split 3 cubic meter objects into their base form.

  •   Like all Transmutation spells Examination must have been casted on the combination beforehand at least once by the Transfigurist in order to be able to separate it. Although separating metals from an alloy may be simple for a Transfigurist to figure out, picking apart complex constructs such as crossbows or clocks require the Transfigurist to have a good understanding of how the object is put together.
      Redlines:
  • Fissioning materials to create products that are not mundane in lore and could potentially cause harm requires speaking to LT.
  • The outcomes of the mixture may not exceed three cubic meters in total.
  • There is not theoretical limit as to how many outputs may come from a mixture, but the more components, the more essence is spent.
  • You cannot Fission complex objects such as crossbows or clockwork-based devices if your character does not know the process of their creations.

  •

    [ Magic Compatibility ]

    [ Move Enchant ]

Rank: 1 | Emotes: 4+ | Essence: 6 Desc: When combined with Enchanting, Transfiguration allows one to grasp and rip enchants from gems and place them onto other objects. Whether the enchant works or not in its new home depends on the enchant itself.
Mechanics: A Transfigurist's ability to fuse objects of larger and larger sizes grows with their skill.
  • At rank 1 a Transfigurist can move enchants from objects that can be physically held into their base form.
  • At rank 2 a Transfigurist can move enchants from objects 1 cubic meter in size.
  • At rank 3 a Transfigurist can move enchants from objects 2 cubic meter in size.
  • At rank 4 a Transfigurist can move enchants from objects 3 cubic meter objects in size.

  •   Redlines:
  • Moving Enchants requires the Transfigurist/Enchanter to be in contact with both objects.
  • The receiver of the enchant must have an appropriate gem in it to hold it.
  • Depending on the enchantment it may not continue working when transferred.
  • Requires Rank 2 in Enchanting.
  • May be cast in combat.

    Summary

Transfiguration was originally developed by Arcanist. It is employed by casters of magic seeking to experiment with the aspects of the universe. The magic involves examining things first then using various alteration spells to manipulate them. A Transfigurist's abilities are mainly non-combative. Below is a list of redlines to keep in mind:
      Redlines:
  • Transmutation spells can only be used on an object that a Transfigurist has casted Examination on once before.
  • Cannot be cast on living things. Must be either dead-organic/inorganic.
  • Follows equivalent exchange. You may not create/destroy matter/aspects. For every change, there is a consequence.
  • Aesthetic actions, done in good faith in which no parties are hurt, and done in a way which makes proper sense, are completely fine.
  • You may not cast a spell without properly practicing and researching said spell through RP means, whether this is via lessons from a teacher or going out into the world to study how the mechanics of such a spell could be easily executed.
  • For the sake of moderation tracking, ease of access, and for one’s benefit, it is highly suggested that the player keeps their persona’s Essence in their persona prefix.
  • Attempts to maliciously and knowingly power game, loophole, or generally provide a low standard of RP with this and any other magic may lead to one’s MA being revoked.
