Scrolls
Scrolls are similar to Magic Runes in function but work differently. Like runes magic scrolls are an outlet of magical energy and potential. Sigils are constructed with intention and recorded using a pen and paper to be activated at a later time. They tend to be more simplistic in design and can only be activated once. Sigils tend to follow the rule that more time, effort and precision make stronger spells- this puts a ceiling on how complicated a scroll spell they are and therefore how powerful they are. They are incredibly convenient for small bursts of magic like sparks, sounds, light but fade as quickly as they emerge. They can only be activated once and after activation the paper is eaten away as if the ink itself is acidic. To activate a spell once needs to possess an amount of magic- more mana is needed to activate a scroll than a rune therefore the mana threshold is higher for a scroll. It does not need to be activated by the sorcerer who intitially inscribed the spell but the caster needs to have enough mana to meet the spell threshold or they can suffer for ill effects like that of Mana Recoil. For a scroll to be activated because there is less magic inscribing the caster must also know the intent behind the scroll, this could mean that they are able to read the Sigils, know of the scrolls function, of understand the scribe's intent at the time of making
Scrolls are incredibly useful as they can be prepared ahead of time, take up little space and little carry weight. Multiple can be activated at once and the effects of them can be stacked. They are also useful for lessening the strain on a caster as they can amplify existing magic without the caster needing to sink as much magic into the effect.
