Panthurium

Seething Claw Florabeast

This Florabeast was first discovered in the dangerous jungles of the southern Columbian continent, and there are many who have argued that it ought to have stayed there. Seeds for these creatures are one of the few things that the mysterious Empire of the Golden Sun has allowed to leave its borders, which is itself a curious notion.

Regardless of the why, the Panthurium has found a permanent place among many homesteaders for its skill in pest control. Its claws leak a toxic sap when extended, that can severely debilitate any animals that come in contact with it. Creatures of lesser intelligence like rodents will be quickly dispatched by this toxin, while pests of higher orders like coyotes and cougars can smell or sense the Panthurium coming, and will avoid any place where it regularly roots. The red ruff around its neck is also a striking contrast against the dark green of its body, and will alert anyone nearby to its presence.

Name Explanation
The first few letters of the name of the flower match with the middle letters of the name of the animal's genus. Apparently there isn't an actual cat called the panther, it's the name of the higher family that includes jaguars, leopards, lions, and tigers. The infamous black panther is really a leopard or jaguar with solid black fur.
