Lupine

Sharp Needles Florabeast

A noble creature with a long history, Lupine have been favored by knights, Guardiners, and other heroic types since antiquity. A remarkably hardy breed of Florabeast, Lupine are able to survive in a wide range of climates and geographic areas, unhindered by cold, drought, and other factors.

Slightly larger than a wolf, Lupine are covered in thick, bristly needles that differ in shape and hardness between varieties. While they may break off easily, new needles will grow back within a few days, faster if they are left to root all day.

Beneath the bark that protects the rest of their bodies, Lupine secrete a viscous pitch, and can command enough of it together to eject a ball of sticky hindrance. The commonly held myth that Lupine can launch their needles at a distance like arrows from a bow is unfounded, though they will leave them behind in any creature unfortunate enough to face one.

Name Explanation
Creatures resembling dogs are referred to as canine, cats as feline, and wolves as lupine. There is also a species of leguminous herbs called lupines or lupins, but this Florabeast isn't based on those.
