Cocobra

Snake Shell Florabeast

The coconut is a versatile fruit, used for a wide variety of purposes in the tropical jungles where it originates. Not only does it have a sweet inner flesh, it is filled with cool water, and its shell can be used for tools or fiber. As would be expected, a Florabeast inheriting the nature of this plant would be similarly versatile as well.

Normally only three feet long, the Cocobra can also stand up on its tail to survey its surroundings, and can slither forward slowly if needed. Its body is covered in milky white scales, excepting the dark brown of its hood, which resembles the two halves of a split coconut.

When threatened or when wanting to draw attention, the Cocobra can snap the halves of its hood together quickly, making a distinctive noise that has been likened to the sound of horse's hooves. If pressed further, it can close its hood up entirely and fold the remainder of its body inside the shell, making it much smaller and heavily armored. It cannot do much while inside its shell, but planters have found it exceptionally easy to transport their Florabeasts while they are in this state.

Name Explanation
The name of the animal starts with the first sound of the plant, but the repetition is also important. "Coco" is the Spanish word for coconut, and the hood of the cobra fit well with  the round shape of open coconut halves. Its behavior of pulling its entire body into its coconut hood and closing up is a direct nod to the Poké Ball.
