Beetbat

Colorful Flyer Florabeast

For many generations, Beetbats were thought to be nocturnal, rooting in the rich soil of caves during the day and only venturing out at night. The famous zoobotanist Hiram Wheelright finally relegated this theory to myth by studying them closely, and finding that since they were so small and unobtrusive, hardly anyone noticed them during the day when they were active, and assumed that they must have been off somewhere rooted. “Besides,” Wheelright pointed out, “how would they be able to absorb sunlight at night?”

Owing to their animal natures, Beetbats are capable of navigating in complete darkness, provided they have drank in enough sunlight during the day. This makes them valued by Guardiners who need to locate people or objects in dark places.

The name of this Florabeast carries some contention with it. In the northern regions of the Frontier, it is known as a Beetbat, but in the southern reaches, it is referred to nearly exclusively as a Batbeet.

Name Explanation
Both beet and bat start with the letter "b". The mention of their being called both beet-bat and bat-beet is because of confusion about what they were supposed to be called during creation.
