Saarefän Velehsähn

“Mariax is my… favorite. I admire him and respect him greatly.”
“Why is that?” He inquired as he hid hands behind his back while astute ears articulated towards her.
“He is compassionate in a way I could never be.”
Named after the renowned High Priestess of Mazarath, Sehrefaan, Saarefän was born to the nomadic clan of Velehsän in Vinde Yal Mäsvyel. She easily recognized, and often remarked on, for her odd appearance. Her unique features are typical to a mostly harmless chromosomal disorder that causes individuals to be born without suede-skin, have narrow noses and nostrils, as well as rounded pupils, short ears, and often sterility is another more severe result of this condition. Saarefän mild issues limiting her vertical field of vision due to her round pupils and some sensitivity to the cold due to a lack of suede skin as well as temperature regulation. Growing up, Saarefän was a solitary girl who liked exploring to draw landscapes or working with her older mothers on day-to-day chores; being born without suede-skin gave her vulnerability to the cold and she often remarks she does not like the cold. She is a known Veherrihs, versatile, but with expertise in the sphere of Void-magic.   Her mothers urged her to become a High Priestess of Mazarath since her skills as a Veherrihs allowed her to command the Void itself. However, Saarefän content with her nomadic lifestyle and being with her family. She speaks of the Void-God frequently, stating it is him who guides her and gives her insight. She claims he began speaking to her as a girl, notably to teach her how to harness her abilities, but he would also tell her stories of the ancient world.

In the later half of the month of Alkhäd, 10,955, the clan Velehsän encountered a group of travelers and offered them shelter at their camp; this wasn't an unusual offer from the nomadic clans of this province. Saarefän stated they had given her an uneasy feeling, but these travelers were not outwardly unusual nor uncommon in the parts of Vinde Yal Mäsvyel her clan was moving through. She had mentioned this uneasy feeling to her birth-father, but it developed into a fight and she isolated herself away from her clan during their evening meal. When she decided to return to the camp, her prejudices were confirmed. Much of her family had been slaughtered in their sleep. She joined her older siblings in retaliation, but lost two of her older brothers. Even with her magical talents alone, Saarefän could not protect herself nor her younger siblings.   The travelers had taken Saarefän and the few that survived, to join a nearby group that had been stationed further away from her family's camp. When they arrived at this camp she realized what was happening. These abductors were revealed to be initiates of cult devoted to Suluth Styrr. Saarefän had been kept in captivity for several months, unable to see or know if her siblings were alive. Her captors sought to convert her into on their Void-turned, but she resisted their attempts. However, after some time she decided to pretend she was becoming one of them by using her gifts as a Veherrihs. She would eventually be released from confinement and allowed to roam the compound freely. She secretly sought out her siblings but they were nowhere in the cult's compound.   Saarefän would escape after almost three months of captivity. She fled into Vindyarr Khrïn and to a village within the Valgaartiran's border. She would then get the attention of mirkhanen Svä Thihlausü after informing the village's guard of encroaching cultists. Mirkhesen Evihgoth Dïthvuul traveled to the village and questioned Saarefän of the cultist before bringing her back to the capital. Evihgoth sympathized with traumatized Saarefän and filed to grant her asylum and later citizenship in the Valgaartiran when he discovered she was not only a talented Veherrihs, but a quick learner with a love for Ënokh's history. Saarefän would obtain her citizenship via award for assisting Evihgoth into his investigations of the cult that had abducted her and murdered her family. This investigation would lead to a raid and extermination of the cult sect.   Officially, Saarefän's records are sparse and sealed for her own privacy. She resides within the Valgaartiran Academy's dormitory while she attends a full schedule of classes with the intention of pursuing specialization in archaeology of Zyendil Maar. Occasionally, she can be found in mirkhesen Evihgoth's company for official business, but sometimes leisurely activities as well.
