Clan Gearturner

Clan Gearturner is a clan run by gnomes for gnomes, the only group of gnomes that has a Jarl, and therefore influence the governmental structures of the dwarves they often find themselves under. As such, Clan Gearturner contributes their technology for the betterment of both gnomes and dwarves. A combination of their inventive minds with the craftsmanship skill of dwarves have been known to create great works of craft and ingenuity.   Clan Gearturner accepts all gnomes no matter their subrace, but has not interacted with svirfneblin in a long time. While they don't seek these kinsmen out they also don't harbor ill will towards them. Not all gnomes live under or with other member of clan Gearturner, and a lot of clans keep gnomes within their ranks. These clans can be affiliated with clan Gearturner or not. The majority of clan Gearturner are Rock gnomes, but there are a few forest gnomes within their ranks.   Clan Gearturner holds a bay city known as Iron Port, it's a very busy city as much of the shipping that goes around the continent of Four Rocks goes through Iron Port. This has created a symbiotic relationship with clan Brightaxe, as Goldpoint and Iron Port also share a river. In return for clan Gearturner giving clan Brightaxe access to their port, Clan Brightaxe will often negotiate on the behalf of clan Gearturner in both trade and political agreements. Ironport isn't the best place to live however. It's rather overcrowded, and has a large population of poor people, due to the fall out of the great Displacement. For a very long time, Ironport was a tent city around a simple shipping town, and construction has yet to catch up even after 200 years.   Clan Gearturner's Jarl Waywocket Gearturner had actually held her own mountain that was near Iron Port, but was driven to her nearby shipping port by a group of stone giants. At that point she had not been known as a Jarl but gave assistance to nearby dwarfish clans when they were driven away from their own mountains. After proving herself as a leader for both gnomes and dwarves it was unanimously agreed upon that she would be accepted as a Jarl and her kin accepted as a Clan by the dwarves of Four Rocks.   The mountain which was held by the gnomes and has just recently been reclaimed, is known as Time Kept Peak. It has several great, public, works of invention. One such work is the giant clock face on the outside of the mountain, which has still been running even after 200 years of occupation by the Giants. Another, on the inside, is the automated mine cart system which makes maneuvering around the city inside quite simple. For know Time Kept peak is rather barren as people are slowly moving back into the mountain, some even electing to stick to their lives in the overcrowded Ironport as opposed to moving back into their former home.   Members of Clan Gearturner also have access to the Artificer Class as described by the book Ebberon, Rising from the Last War. The artificer combines inventiveness and magic together in one class.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

  • Invent for the Future The only way we take on people twice, thrice or.... frice our size is via invention. We don't have enough gifted magic users not to come up with ingenious ways to burn, impale, or explode our enemies
  • Racial Acceptance The dwarves took us in, we take in all gnomes and dwarves, as long as they aren't jerks.
  • Tricks, Traps and Treasures Trick and trap your enemies to get their treasure! Just like Garl Glittergold!

Common Taboos

  • Working Harder, not Smarter You know there is probably a more efficient way of doing your job, it's up to you to figure it out, instead of needlessly throwing yourself at the task doing the same thing over and over.
  • Open Battle We're more support or stealth troops, really.....
  • Being a Sour Sport Don't be a sore loser, don't take offense to a good prank. Just, lighten up a little yeah?
