Ember Bats

by hughpierre
A common bat in north and south of the Fourth Quadrant.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Heat-Resistant

To shield themselves from their hot environment, ember bats secrete oils that form a soot-like layer on their fur; creating a texture resembling cracked, blackened coals. When flying, the wings of an ember bat take on a faintly warm glow that makes it visible at night.
The same fluids that make the bat tolerate of fire; also makes them invulnerable to disease
— A common belief to those living in Manka

Ecology and Habitats

Volcanic Caves

Ember bats roost in clusters on burned trees or volcanic rocks, camouflaging as glowing embers to ward off predators. When disturbed, they scatter, creating the illusion of sparks rising from a fire.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Every night, roughly 300,000 bats flyout on mass at sunset to forage for insects and fruit. These bats play a crucial role in controlling insect populations.

Behaviour

Many animals in Manka evolved a chemical defense, where burning secretions serve as a potent deterrent against potential threats.   In response, predators devised counter measures that comically leads to animals higher up the chain to spontaneously and nonchalantly appear as though smoking or burning or flaming.
