the Red Hand

A figure stalking Vivaria, killing children by the dawn following the morning when a red hand appeared on the door of the child's home. The Red Hand was a figure in the Vivarian crime community years ago in 907 A.D. At the time of their original appearance, the Red Hand was a small time crook that always signed their work with a red handprint. It used to be done in paint, but now has escalated to blood. In current day, 912 A.D., every couple of days, a red handprint will appear over a doorway of a local home and by the next dawn a child living in that house will be dead. No sign of forced entry or how they're getting in. The Thornguard tried to set up a sting operation. Both parent and guard blacked out and woke up to find the child dead. No discernable connections between families. All different races.
Jack Silver consults his patron regarding red hand motifs. Avarice says that blood is demon-y in general, but by itself it doesn't have any significance to do with any major demons. It is associated with minor imps, but they don't typically get as crazy as deaths. Avarice's guess is that when the Red Hand first started, they were going for an imp motif and are now really sticking to the bit.
Seamstress Lila Saysanasy gives some background on the Red Hand: "Used to be they were a small fry, had a little schtick of wearing all red; their name in the ledger was George. Then they show up one day and say they've thrown their lot in with the Raywalkers and have been given some kind of power. Tell us to either let the Raywalkers into the city or pay the price." Seamstress Priscilla remembers the Red Hand as "being pale, kind of flighty. Got a feeling of genasi from him but not sure." Seamstress Mildred indicates that the Red Hand "just kind of shows up suddenly in records, likely came from somewhere else. Pela talked to some folks who vaguely remembered Red Hand going around with two associates. Didn't make waves first time around."
It is later that they learn that a figure in a skull mask was badgered into saying their name was Onoana to a targeted child. They learn from the captured Moa that although Moa was the one behind the Red Hand's activities while following orders to further the aims of the Raywalkers, it was Onoana who originally was the Red Hand five years previously.
