Session 077: Wind and Waves

We open on the deck of the Icebreaker, the sun shining down on the party as they are folded into the activity of the crew. They strategize how to use their magic to speed up the journey. And thus, their sea journey begins.   Five moments in time:  

One

  Jack and Mohr.   An offer to talk, an offer of support, a check in. Jack asks Mohr how she is doing and she does her typical deflection.  

Two

  Zenith and Talasea.   The religious ways of sailors, Star-Eyed One versus Wavekeeper. A ritual requesting safe passage, practiced by sailors throughout the ages. Talasea creating a rainbow gay-ass shell to use as a bowl, then volunteering to jump into the ocean to collect some sea foam. Vermira in monkey form scraping some barnacles and crud off the side of the ship. Other sailors noticing the ritual in progress and contributing shells that they have on them for the purpose. Zenith finishing it up with a sprinkle of sparkling micah powder.   A plea whispered to the Wavekeeper as the shell bowl is tossed into the waves: here's to safe travels and relatively calm waters.   A spark of feeling in return.    

Three

  Aphid and Swallow.   Lessons in cooking, on a ship and otherwise. The importance of limes, the wisdom of creating an experience for the people you are cooking for.  

Four

  Talasea and Sasha.   A tense conversation in the soft space following dinner, as Sasha has his short evening break. An unexpected standoffish energy from Sasha and frustration from Talasea. Talasea admits that he can't stop thinking about them. Sasha admits that he can't stop thinking about Tal either, but doesn't want to get closer only to have to hunt Tal down some day.  

Tal: It might already be too late for that.

 

Sasha: Promise me we won't regret this.   Tal: Can anyone promise that?

  Talasea so regretfully mentioning that it would have been nice to watch the meteor shower that is supposed to happen the next night. Sasha saying he needs to think about it and telling Tal to meet him on deck the next night.   Talasea returning to the rest of the party to gush about what happened. Discussing the nature of Sasha's belief in the institution and his status as a sea cop. Mohr realizing that Semir is also a sea cop and despairing over that. Strategizing how to get Sasha to recognize the issue with being a sea cop. Swallow and Aphid planning what to serve for dinner the next night.   Fading to black as the party strategizes what Tal will wear.  

Five

  Mohr and Semir.   Mohr tracking Semir down after days of Semir greeting her in a politely detached manner. Mohr exhibiting an air of curiosity and learning about how Semir got recruited and sent off on a mission to Velikanishche - the Giant Graveyard. Learning about how Semir did well and got a chance to speak to someone with power and got permission to skip some of the basics and go further afield than most new recruits get to. Mohr and Semir flipping between bickering and sincere connection.   Semir sharing that it's important that his salary be sent home to their parents.   Semir sharing that it's important because their dad got hurt.   Semir sharing that their dad was out on a hunt and got attacked and their mother only barely got him home.   Semir sharing that their dad is paralyzed from the waist down, but is otherwise fine.   Mohr immediately blaming herself and Semir snapping that only he is allowed to be mad at her. Mohr being mad at herself anyways.   We end as Mohr prepares to Send to her dad, with Semir having made her promise to mention that he's safe and made her call.   We end as the Icebreaker nears its next stop.
