Session 022: Temple of the Wavekeeper

We begin with a live performance of the Last Dragon. The North Wind learns a version of the fall of the dragons, which attributes their disappearance to the dramatic love story of Cielaveskarraron the Sky Sculptor and Wynonina the farmer. Afterwards, the crew gets into a number of shenanigans, Jack attempting to sneak backstage while Tal encounters a sketchy man in the process of buying souvenirs. The crew collectively work to intercept the sketchy man (including Jack, who bailed on getting backstage once he got caught) and discover that he had been going stall to stall stealing from the tills of distracted vendors. They let him go with a brief admonishment and Tal makes no move to pay the actual artisan who created his two new statues nor to return his scarf, but I’m sure this is something that will never be brought up again.   That night, Zenith and Tal make their nightly calls. Zenith tells Verity about his sister and receives a panting reply. Talasea messages Temperance, who says the General threw a fit, then Swallow, who says he’s settling in at Jack’s just fine and hearing stories about Jack. Jack once again dreams of the room and the voice, which tells him that it could help if he let’s it and shows him a vision in which he is strong.   The next day, the North Wind returns to Tidehaven and meets with Konane. Konane turns out to be a bubbly young woman who speaks very fast, with spears of blue light that hover around her head. The crew asks about the Well of the Wavekeeper and the Plane of Water. Then give her the whole rundown.   Konane tells them that the Well seems to mostly connect to the plane of water but not always, hard to predict. Calls Tal a child of the water no wait child of stars sorry. Is shocked by the extra expulsions from the well but has no fucken clue what that's about. Has theories: maybe another entrance has opened up and was being fucked with, maybe something has changed with how the well works, who knows. She tells them she would need to go and check the well out to see what was actually up with that.   Konane does a little ritual with the fabric from Verity, the two vials of planar fluid, and a bit of Well water she has on hand. She determines that the two vials are definitely from the same place, that the fabric knows the planar fluid and has spent more time in the fluid than in the Well water. That the Well water and the fluid are similar or related in some ways but not the same. And cheerfully informs them that that is all she’s got.   Konane finishes by telling the group that she'd be happy to go check out the well with them and even has a way to get there lickety split… but that she has to finish this ritual and it's gonna be a little over a week…. Unless they want to help?   The group, of course, says hell yeah. Konane says that they normally speed up the ritual with flowers from the moon cactus, but that she sent two priests out to gather some a couple days ago and they haven't returned. Konane wants her priests back obviously, but also if they bring back some moon cactus flowers she'll be able to finish up the ritual in a couple hours. Tal asks if anything needs doing at the bottom of the sea and Konane offers to allow him to come complete the ritual underwater when it is time. Konane gives vague directions to a small cliff inland that has some moon cactuses, although they're normally found in the Forest of Spines to the south.   At this point, Tal brings things back around to the child of stars comment. And Konane is like “uuuuuuuuh what do you mean huh what oh I just say things sometimes don't really know what they mean.” Zenith casts detects thoughts and gets hit by a hurricane of Konane's thoughts, but catches a fragment:* shit I prophesied at someone again, I probably should stop doing that.* He tries to probe deeper but fails, meaning that Konane knows it happened.   Zenith shifts focus to Jack before the spell can be ended and sees that Jack is thinking about last night's weird dream. He tries to probe deeper and again fails, meaning that Jack too knows and is like the fuck. They talk a teensy bit about the dream and Jack is like it's fine everything's fine.   Konane kicks them out and the group goes to rent some donkeys and head out into the scrubland surrounding the city. It takes the rest of the day to find the right area. As they do, they're followed and then attacked by three bug people mounted on giant lizards. Aphid turns into a giant lizard and gets Zenith to mount him but this quickly proves to be unideal for everyone involved. However, they end up easily stomping out the bug people and two lizards escape. With that, they head out to begin hunting for flowers once more.
