Session 014: Nothing Gold Can Stay
General Summary
We begin, as we so often do, with a job board. North Wind picked out a few postings that looked promising and went on their merry way. With the end of the day came a laundry list of scenes. Aphid sics the local mice on a lost pet cat and mentions his Lukot lineage to Bramble the mouse, who’d heard of the fancy springish mice. Meanwhile, Jack and Zenith have a heart to heart and open up a bit about their past. Talasea makes contact with a person from his past via a new spell and determines that they are safe wherever they are. Mohr uses the same spell to check in with Oswyn, who is totally, definitely, 100% cool with them. Totally.
In sleep, Jack dreams of a room. And a voice that tells him to shoot first.
The next morning, North Wind goes to the Bright Hall to find an amnesiac who’d called for help on the job board. With the help of the innkeeper, they manage to snatch Goldie, the mysterious, yellow-tinged client, from a rival group of adventurers attempting to assist. Investigating, they find that Goldie has a hint of divination magic about them, and awoke with planar residue on their clothes. The group takes Goldie to the Ember Tower and get their new mage buddy Lae to cast Dispel Magic.
Goldie startles, remembers, says oh no, and disappears.
Talasea, thinking quickly, sends a message after them and Goldie apologizes. The group, with Goldie’s aid, manage to collect a fine cloth sack containing platinum and a fine silver necklace from the Bright Hall.
North Wind heads to the next job opportunity at the Den of Sanguinity, where they meet the lady of the manor and her definitely-not-phony butler. She looks them over and pronounces them stylish enough to do the job. She gives them their instructions, flirts a bit with Talasea, and instructs them to return the next night dressed appropriately.
Most of the group heads out to thrift shop for fancy-enough clothing. Jack, however, goes to pick up his suit, taking Zenith along for moral support.
Jack goes home.
Jack and Zenith spend an emotional and sometimes awkward afternoon at Jack’s house with his sister-in-law-to-be Sarah and later with Jack’s fiance Thomas. Zenith does his best to cut the tension. Jack does his best to explain. Zenith leaves the reunited family to have dinner. And later, Jack leaves with his wedding suit over his arm, some gifted cufflinks in his pocket, and an invitation to come back for breakfast.
Just in time to see Nane melt into the shadows...
