Foxfire Lamp

Neither for the first time, nor for the last, Dasha wished he had listened to his grandmother when she warned that a blizzard was imminent. "Dasha," she said. "The pelts will wait. The snow will not." Yet, Dasha did not wish to make the Yegorovs wait. So he had packed up his delivery and set out on the journey to the next village over telling his grandmother that he would be fine. Now, however, the snow and wind were raging so heavily that Dasha was not even certain that he was still on the road. He might already be lost amongst the snowy wastes and too unlucky to be saved.   Then, Dasha caught sight of a light. A warm flame darting amongst the snow. It almost looked like a fox.   Relief flooded Dasha's heart as he stumbled after it, knowing he had been found and would be guided back to warmth and safety.
Foxfire lamps are ever-burning light sources used throughout the Winter Kingdom. The wrought-iron and glass structures are traditionally round and decorated with the gloves of the Snowmother in addition to images of foxes. Every Winterian settlement keeps at least one foxfire lamp. Larger or more prosperous settlements will have multiple. The general rule of thumb is that you want one lamp per one thousand people. Just to make sure that everyone can find their way home.   In addition to being inexhaustible as long as they remain enchanted, foxfire lamps are capable of guiding wayfarers to their destinations. Typically occurring during storms, though possible anytime a traveler becomes lost, apparitions in the shape of glowing, vulpine forms will appear to the misguided wanderer and guide them to its origin: the nearest lamp.
